New 308BHTS Owner. Hitch Question
My wife and I just sold off our old Terry travel trailer and closed the deal on a new 2016 308BHTS! We are very excited to pick it up in 2 weeks. My question is regarding hitches. The dealer tried to sell me on the E2 10,000lb setup but I don't think that's sufficient for this trailer. I'm currently towing with a 2008 Toyota Tundra Double Cab 4x4, upgraded diesel truck is in the works but cant do truck and trailer at the same time. Ive been looking at the Equilizer 4-point sway control hitch but I'm torn by different dealers telling be the 12k will be fine or the 14k is what I need. I don't want to get too much hitch for the job but I also want to be more than covered.
Any advice would be most appreciated!
Thanks

I'd prefer to go with the 14k since the cost difference at etrailer is minimal but I've heard if you go too big you will have issues. Just want to make sure everyone is safe and comfortable on the road! Thanks

When I had my travel trailer TH several years ago the dealer recommended a 12,000 lb hitch. I am convinced it was too small since I had to synch the load leveler chains REALLY tight. It would have been much better to have a higher rating and not have to fight the chains so much. Good Luck!

We went with the Equalizer 12k. GVWR on the trailer is 10k. We weren't comfortable getting the 10k hitch and potentially maxing it out with a full trailer. We are very satisfied with the Equalizer 12k. Going 14k seems a bit much.

We upgraded from the Reese dual cam 10k to the 14k equalizer for our 308 and it seems to do fine. Probably could have gotten away with the 12k but hubby didn't want to take a chance. We pull with a F250 Super Duty. We did weight the tongue and it seems to be rated low according to the specs.

I have the 4 point equalizer 12K works great, trailer calls for 10K but went 1 size greater was cheaper than the 10K also.

Well I ended up going with the 14k after talking to the Equalizer customer service people. Turns out the 12 and 14 are basically the same thing just the hitch setup is slightly more heavy duty. Said either would work fine but no harm going with the 14. Thanks for all the advice, I will post how the inaugural tow goes when we pick up the new trailer next weekend!

Great choice I have the Equalizer 14k and love it. I had a 2015 308 and towed it with the 10k the dealer told me it would be ok but it really was not enough of hitch. Bought the 2016 313 5 months later and traded the 308 and insisted on the 14k and all good and no white knuckles driving. I would recommend you buy the 14k ball from Equalizer also just my 2cents. Enjoy your maiden voyage and good luck !
