albuquerque to Mesa
Guys, what is the best route into the Mesa area pulling my rig? We just booked our spot at Sun Rise Resort for January through March and are now planning the trip. Looks like no way around hills. Just trying to find not necessarily the shortest but the best. Anyone else going to be there next winter? Thanks

Good morning. I drive this route frequently. If you're trying to avoid some long steep grades and tight turns, I'd suggest you take I-25 south to Hwy26, then over to I-10 and into Mesa. It's a couple hours longer than some of the mountain routes, but you won't have to deal with the "white knuckles".

January.....might be snow, but if the roads are clear: I-40 to Holbrook, 377 south from Holbrook to Heber; 260 to Payson (there is a long 5-6% grade coming off of the rim, but it is 4 lane); 87 from Payson to the Mesa area ( there are hills, but again, 4 lane). Your engine brake and 4th will handle the downhills. If weather is bad....no....try the I-25, I-10 route. USA RV Park in Gallup is a good place for an overnighter, then about 300 miles to Mesa.
ETA...watch the winds. I-40 can get pretty severe. Today, in Phoenix, I drove 60 miles RT across N Phoenix, and the 30+ mph gusts had my 1/2 ton Nissan wobbling all over the road.2016 303RLS

Thanks guys. Looking at the map that is what I kind of figured. We will need to keep an eye on the forecast. Need to correct our destination. Should have said Sun Life Resort in Mesa. Any good or bad feed back?

We stayed there for a week early this April. Very nice park and people, lots of activities. Good location to access the Phoenix metroplex. As you probably know, majority of sites are long-term residents, very clean and quiet. It's a fun place.
