I haven't personally slept on the HJ bed but I cannot imagine trying to do so without the support legs. Maybe they just assume light kids sleep on them.

My daughter and son in law slept on ours awhile back and said it was awful. Last weekend I placed a thin air mattress with 2 foam egg crate type pads on top and they reported it was much more comfortable!

However, the person I spoke with said they (Grand Design) would happily send them to me to install. All I had to do was email customer service with my request. Be sure and include your Vin #. I followed up with them today and they told me they are on the way.
If I remember right, I think I wast told the same thing by the factory when I called a couple years ago.

Ours were too short as described and I like the idea of them being supported so I measured and drilled new holes (there was still plenty of leg inside the tube that allowed them to be further extended) and bolted to the length I wanted. This was 4 seasons ago and haven't had an issue. I have used the benches both with the support legs and without and just like the feel when they legs are there for support.
