conflicting information from GD
I have now been given conflicting information on 2 different issues by GD customer service. The most recent exchange is as follows.
My question:
Will the 303rls accommodate 16 inch tires?
Their response:
The 303rls can accommodate 16" rims. We have built the frame with one inch spacers which allow for the larger tire.
My question:
I have a 2016 Reflection 303rls. I believe it already has the spacers to allow me to put 16 inch tires on my trailer. What is the maximum size 16 inch tire that GD recommends?
Their response:
Good morning and thank you for contacting Grand Design. I am sorry this unit is not spect for 16” tires and has not been tested with 16” tires. The 303RLS has RVIA approval for 15” tires only. Installing 16” tires may cause clearance problems within you frame and axles. Thank you again for contacting Grand Design and have a great day
It seems to me that GD wants to have it both ways. Which is it? I believe they should have a standard policy regarding 16 inch tires on the 303rls. The wording of this second response makes me nervous to switch to 16 inch tires. Would I void my warranty?
I know GD customer service has a good reputation on this forum and I have had good good response times from them, but it does seem like they have a hard time getting on the same page.
perhaps someone from GD would like to weigh in here?

Try the search function. There are several threads pertaining to 16" wheels and tire sizes on this site. Also search axle/spring spacer blocks.

The newer models do accommodate 16" wheels, with having the spacers.
Previous years did not. I forget when exactly the change happened.Steve- Inventory Manager at Tom Schaeffer's RV, Shoemakersville, PA www.tomschaeffers.com

My 2016, bought in November 2015 has a 2" spacer. It seems that GD doesn't want to be pinned down. A common response to tech questions is to call them. Likely lawyer advice. I did the measurements and would like to have the Goodyear 614s. It seems that it would work. The wildcard in my mind is the springs-would they flex enough to allow the tires to contact the underside of the RV? If so, it would be a $2500-$3000 mistake, by the time the 16" wheels and new tires are purchased. Your spec sheet will show more weight than given on the web site and the driver's side is several hundred pounds heavier than the curb side. Between the OEM tires and the axles, the weight limits are really pushed if loaded to the GVWR.

I put 16 tires on my 2015 293RES, ran 10k miles with no problems, then the dealer transferred them to the 2016 303RLS we bought in February. I have about 4" from the top of the tires to the underside of the camper.

When we ordered our 303 we asked the dealer if the factory could install the 16" wheels. the dealer said it would have to be done after delivery because it would affect the GVRW of the unit and the unit is only comes one way with no add on's. So we were very surprised when the 303 came delivered with the 16". Even the tire decal was correct. I have not compared labels to a 303 with 15". The clearance is fine and it rides great i feel more comfortable with the larger wheels.
