Molly Not Camping for a While

Molly loves to run and race, fetch and swim. She tore her ACL last month, and had surgery yesterday. Her restrictions are to stay in a confined area and walk on a leash only to do her business for 8 weeks. So we won't be getting out in the camper for a bit. We will know more on her restrictions getting lifted after a vet visit in July. Her 12 week check is early enough in August that we should still be able to make it to the rally.

Maybe a ramp to get her in and out of the Reflection and Silverado would be OK for her recovery? We hope it is smooth and soon.

Sorry to hear about Molly. I had an Australian shepherd mix that was the same way, would chase a ball forever. Torn the lateral collateral ligament that connects and holds her two halves of leg together. My vet fixed her up like new, but we never allowed her to run as much, so afraid she would injure herself again. Loved that dog bunches. Guess what they used to hold everything together, surgical fishing line, yep drilled holes in her bones, slipped the line through and tied it off. Worked like a charm, she never had a problem with it. Like Molly, she had restriction for 12 weeks, that was a long 12 weeks for her.

Thanks for the thoughts. We did get the ramp recommended by Marcy and Gary (thanks Whittleburner). We're hoping when she is cleared of some restrictions to take her on leash to swim at First Landing State Park. Today was a very long day one of 12 weeks.

Sorry to learn about Molly's injury.
You are at the most difficult part of the "12 weeks". It will take a while for Molly to understand that she can't run like she always has. I will be interested to learn if swimming is an "allowed" therapy. I never would have thought of that.

Sorry to hear this Kay and Dave, and Molly of course. We had a great little dog many years ago the tore her ACL playing ball and we remember what you're going through so well.

The hardest thing is keeping her from doing what she wants to do. They're so special.

Give Molly an extra dog treat and a hug for me (make it a low cal treat seeing as she won't be as active). Hope her recovery is quick. The ramp will make things easier on all of you.

Molly thanks everyone for your thoughts. The surgeon said he has done dogs that went on to win agility trials a year later. We are hoping this solves the lameness she has had for a while now, and that she doesn't blow out the other knee.

Hey Steve - yes you mentioned the ramp first in the post. I had sent Marcy a PM asking about the ramp they have.
