    Towing 2800BH with F-150

    Hi all,

My wife and I just purchased a 2015 F-150 SuperCrew 3.5L EcoBoost to tow a 2600RB with. However, the 2800BH model has caught our eye, and now I'm interested in seeing if our tow vehicle is within capacity for this larger unit.

Anyway, here are the specs on the new tow vehicle:
    Payload = 2020 pounds
    GCWR/Gross Combined Weight Rating = 16,100 pounds
    F150 GVWR = 7000 pounds
    Max towing capacity 10,700 pounds
    Rear GAWR = 3300 pounds

Tow vehicle passenger and cargo weight would not exceed 700 pounds. The total 'wet' trailer weight with cargo would not exceed 7400 pounds (probably closer to 6800-7000 pounds).

We've heard folks tell us that we should limit the LENGTH of our trailer to 30 feet, even if a slightly larger trailer is well within our towing range. If we're within specs, does it matter if we're towing 32 feet instead of 30?

    Thanks in advance!
    -Scott

Many folks are towing the 2800 with a similar setup to yours, including me. I have am towing mine with a 2015 GMC 1500 crew. Wish I had more power on the hills, but other than that no problem. I think the turbo engine will do better with that. Get a good WD hitch with sway control and you will be fine. You actually have a pretty strong payload rating on yours. My 2800 tongue weight is 960 pounds loaded and ready to go. Based on that you have another 1000 to play with.
    Take care,

    Thanks, CMJ2800BH!

Do you have any recommendations on a good WD hitch w/sway control? Is 10,000 pounds enough, or should I go higher?
The F-150 has built in sway control technology, but that coupled with a good sway bar system should really help out.

    Thanks again,
    Scott

I have the Blue Ox, 10000 w/ 1000 pound bars. It works great, pretty easy to hook up and unhook. It's quiet and you don't have to do anything to back up with it. I don't have any experience with anything else, so I can't comment on others. I have heard that you have to turn off the sway control on the truck because thet and the hitch sway control fight each other. Again, not experience with that, just what I have heard on the forums.
    Take care,

Is that rear axle rating right? Is that off your door jamb sticker? Seems low for a 7000 lb max weight truck....Ie 2 3300 lb axles is only 6600 lbs.

FYI you do not need to turn off your trucks sway control on your F150.
