On road water loss from tank - 2016 Imagine 2600

There have already been some posts on water loss, however, my question relates to preventing damage to our trailer. Since purchasing the trailer, we end up with less than 1/2 a tank of water when we arrive at our campsite. It does not appear to be coming from the body or underside of the trailer as I have not found an area of mud/dirt that would accumulate anywhere water would be leaking on a dusty road. My best guess is the water is coming out of the overflow and the water is leaking continually when on route. What I have done is bought a quick attach on/off valve that I attached to the overflow. Using some of the suggestions by other owners on the forum, I filled the tank, when it started to come out of the overflow, I let it run for about 15 seconds and then shut off the valve I attached. As our trailer would have not been perfectly level when we arrive at our campsite it is still not reading full. It's better but not perfect.

My tech question is can I fill the tank until it runs out of the filling location (where you put in the hose)? Should I turn on the overflow to get out the water in the filling hose (5 seconds), then shut it off?

I do not know why it needs an overflow due to my lack of knowledge. Will it result in tank damage with too much water? Too much weight? Void our warranty? I understand that the level readings are not always accurate, but we had a 30 gallon tank in our old trailer that did not empty this fast.

Note: I also turn on the pump, fill the hot water tank, remove the air from the lines while I fill the tank.

    WrongWay,

It is possible that the overflow pipe is inserted too far into the top of your tank, which limits the volume of water that you can carry.
Sloshing while travelling can start a syphon action if the end of the overflow pipe is submerged in the tank.
You need the overflow to let the air out as you put water in and to tell you when the tank is full . . .
or at least, when the water level has reached the end of the overflow pipe.

If I understand you correctly, I can fill it right up to the top with my overflow valve open. Once it starts to flow out the side of the filling pipe, I close the overflow and I'm good to go.

    Tx!

If the overflow/vent pipe is inserted too far, when the water level reaches the end of this pipe, the air in the tank above this level can't get out and can't be replaced with water. If you really want to figure this out, drain the tank completely and fill with a measured amount. Such as counting how many 5 gal buckets you can get into the tank before it overflows. If this is not close to the stated volume of the tank, you have the evidence for a discussion with GDRV.
