Greystone Fireplace
I tried seeing if there was an issue with these dying fairly quickly. Ours just died after about a year. It may have been less than a year because we haven't turned it on for a few months.
Anyone else have any issues like this?Last edited by Dave and Monica; 06-28-2016 at 07:36 AM.

Most of our camping in our 2 1/2 year old camper is in the off season and the electric fireplace gets used a lot for heat...probably ran all day, every day on a 6 week trip in Jan/Feb. At the end of last season, I pulled the unit out so I could clean the dust from the heater coils. There's not much to these fireplaces...what failed on yours?

It seems the whole unit... (motherboard?) I tried turning it on on this current trip and nothing. Pulled it to check power at the plug and it is good. So it just appears the whole thing went out.

We use ours a lot like Dave does and it has been working fine as well.
In our last 5er we had 2 FP's and the bedroom FP rarely got used. Went to turn it on one day and it was dead and when replaced the tech said motherboard was bad. Not much else can go bad and render both the heat and flame part inoperable.Chris & Honey & Mugsy

I ran mine for 3 months straight in South Dakota this winter with no problems. Didn't really need the extra heat but running on propane alone made bedroom unbearably hot with low outside temps. Fireplace heated living space enough to trip thermostat.

Ours has been in use for almost 2 years. Only issue is a slight squeak sometimes from the "fire" display. I'll take it apart sometime and lubricate it.

Alan,
That little squeak is likely coming from the fire display motor. Ours was. For a display that looks pretty good, the mechanism doing this is really "mickey mouse". Some foil tie wrapped to a rotating shaft and a few light bulbs. There is really nothing to lubricate, but I was able to reduce the noise by bending the motor mounting bracket to align it a little better which reduced the noise. The motor looks like it probably cost a dollar. I was thinking that a better quality motor would be an easy upgrade, but I don't know where to even look for such a thing. See attached pics.

Looks like closer to $10 Rob. Better ones at Mcmaster-Carr are about $23. Take care of that little fella.

These fireplaces are about as cheaply designed and made as anything I've ever seen - China, I believe. We had a controller board go out in the first one. Second one arrived assembled incorrectly (the fiberboard behind the "flames" wasn't placed on the right side of a piece of sheet metal and the foil rubbed on it during rotation). I've also had the squeaking issue that "the other" Rob describes... finally just unplugged the motor. We primarily use it for heat on chilly mornings, anyway, and for that it does a decent job.
