Kit Price N. Idaho
Hello,
Here is a review of the Kit Price campground I've stayed at many times over the years. It is dry camping $18/per night with vault toilets and centralized water spigots. Some sites are reserve-able others are first come first served. There are 52 sites in three loops.
http://www.recreation.gov/camping/ma...edSiteRb=16002
It Lists the site max length as 45' but several of the sites measured at 65'+. My favorite site is B25 which is on a corner so backing in is just straight backwards fully shaded 65' and quite large with no neighbors on one side. It also has a path that leads to a very private beach (about 130'). If you schedule to arrive Sunday afternoon or Mon-Thurs you will have a very good chance of finding a great site without a reservation. In the summer the temperatures range 70-85F during the day and 50-60F during the night. I usually close the windows at about 2-3AM as it gets a little chilly then .
There is no dump station nearby. There is world class fishing for cutthroat and rainbow trout right at your campsite. Typically the campground is only 20-30% full midweek (Sunday afternoon - Thursday).
The small town of Murray has a free museum and some other attractions from their gold rush days. You can stop on the way there and take a short hike through a giant cedar stand with a beautiful creek running through it. The river is fun to float if you have two vehicles or don't mind hiking a ways.
Cheers,
Kevin

Hi Paul,
I only live about 75 miles away and go there 5-6 times a year, so if you go maybe we could meet up and have a beer (I home-brew ). The rainbow trout average about 15-16".

Fishkiller1, the only place I have camped near Challis with a trailer is at a BLM campground on Mackey Reservoir. It is on the highway south of Challis. It can be windy and warm. The Challis area can be warm this time of year. The Stanley area, west of Challis, is more scenic and has some great dispersed camping. It also has several camprounds but they are hard to get into this time of year without reservations. Temps are much cooler near Stanley as well. Enjoy Idaho and have a good trip!
