I know that this is an old post but it has been really helpful to me to take a scratch out of the counter. For anyone that has fine scratches or a bit of a deeper scratch the hardest thing for me to find was the Scotchbrite #7448 pads that HI-MACs recommends without buying enough to last 5 lifetimes. I found you can buy them 1 at a time from Ackland-Grainger. Ordered 5 of them on line on Saturday and showed up today. I did all of the sanding so far per the instructions and finished with 600 grit which has left a smooth matte finish. Will likely go out to the trailer this weekend with the scotchbrite pads and some polishing compound to finish.
I hope that Barb won't even be able to tell where the scratch was.
