More Plumbing Leaks Waiting to Happen

While installing a shut off valve for the toilet water supply, I discovered the more flexible hose (that others have mentioned) that is sometimes used by GDRV in place of Pex. It is a slightly larger OD but a significantly larger ID than the Pex tubing . . . yet they are using Pex fittings and Pex clamps with this hose. This combination obviously seals at original assembly, but if any of these connections are disturbed, they begin to drip. The Pex fittings are a very loose fit into this hose. By the time I had worked the shut off valve into place, it was sealing fine, but the soft hose to Pex fittings at each end of the original hose were leaking. I tried reclamping with Pex clamps and with hose clamps. Neither worked since the softer hose was deformed to its exact original fit to the Pex fitting. The solution was to replace this hose with Pex tubing and all is well.

Just a heads-up to be very gentle if working around or moving these non-Pex hoses.

I wonder if this is why I sometimes notice water at the base of my toilet? I'll have to check this out the next time I am up to camp.
