    Tow Vehicle

I know this thread has been out there, but I want to I hope as a different question. Here goes,

What tow vehicle do you have? What gear ratio do you have (3.42, 3.73, or 4.10). Do you have single rear wheel or DRW? What MPG do you get towing and what MPG do you get not towing.

    I have a 2006 2500 megacab SRW, 5.9 L Cummins. firestone air bags. I tow a 369 Solitude. I get 9 mpg towing and about 20 to 22 mpg not towing (highway). I have 204,000 miles.

    Thanks,

    RWO

Robert, we have a similar 2008 quad cab long box, 6.7 with 3.73 gearing. Towing MPG 9-13, not towing 18-20. We have been on a weight reduction campaign over the past 2 weeks, offloading some tools and extra stuff from the 337 to get down to lower weights, tires will carry 3195 max @ 80 psi. We were at 3360 lb. on rear axle.

Btw my 15mpg not towing is mostly city as we rarely take any highway trips in the truck - we use the motorcycle for that.

I went to craigslist and I upgraded my rims (by 1 inch) and got the firestone tires (package deal) which gave me about 3641lbs per tire for the rear wheels. No mods or lift kit required. I was able to do this for about $900. When the tires wear out, i'll upgrade to Michelins or a new truck.

    Rob and Josie,
I tow my 2017 2600RB Imagine with a 2015 GMC 1500 4x4 double cab, standard bed. The final drive is a 3.42:1 with a payload of 1950 lbs and a tow rating of 9200 lbs. I could not be more pleased with the capability of this vehicle while towing the 2600RB. This is my daily driver so I purchased a trailer at around 80% of capacity in order to stay with a half ton truck. I also use the Equalizer brand 10K hitch for anti sway benefits.
I just returned from a trip to Petoskey Michigan where fuel economy at 65 mph was at 10.5 mpg. Best mpg with a tail wind was at 13.5 and the lowest in a strong head wind was at 8.8 mpg at 60 mph. Total fuel economy for the entire 600 mile trip averaged at 10.6 mpg. Hopefully this helps those that are interested in towing with a half ton truck.

We too could not be more happier with our tow vehicle. We traded our old Camper in of 10 years on the new 308 BH TT Reflection. Our old Camper was with in about 400 lbs of the new one. It seems to tow better than the old one!I tow about 55 to 65 get about 10. to 12 MPG depending on winds and the speeds. We have abundance of Hills in Southern Ohio. But on a four lane @ 60 MPH it does quite well @ 11 to 12 MPG. Not towing combination driving 18 to 21 MPG.
We tow with a 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 crew cab 5.7 V-8 with 8 speed tranny / 3.92 rear gear with Michelin tires. it has no issues at all. Pulled our old camper with no issues what so ever. Under our tow limits with no safety voids. So the 1/2 tons do a very good job from what I see at the camp grounds.
