New Fireplace, flame but no heat!

Hey all, we got a new fireplace from GD. The first few days everything worked great but this morning the heat was on for a couple hours and now no heat.

I know these things are fragile but I would have expected the whole thing to just go out not just the heat function. I did a search and read a number of posts with failed mother boards, which is what I assume happened with our original unit, but I didn't find any posts like this.

    Thoughts?

On a side note: the newer fireplace has a much nicer looking log set and flame than our old one.

    Hi Paul,

The "flame" and the heater are two completely different things. I could see where one could work but not the other. Since you likely still have the old one, take that one apart to see how it works.
BTW, did you tru the circuit breaker reset in the upper left corner ?

I took the old one to the dump The circuit breaker doesn't do anything. I have a feeling the fan is the problem because I can unplug it and re-plug after a few minutes and the heat element will come on for a couple seconds but no fan and then the heat element goes out. Probably a safety feature to avoid overheating.

I suspect I need another replacement as I doubt these things are really serviceable.

Go ahead and open it up. Fan could be stuck, or unplugged

I did LC but everything is connected. I can spin the fan manually so it's not stuck. I suspect it's in the electronics.

Has anyone found a quality replacement make that will fit into the same without the need for reframing of existing cabinet?

Mine started working 50% of the time last winter, and now won’t turn on for anything.

When our fireplace quit working Gary contacted Greystone. After a short conversation they determined it was the circuit board. They sent a neew board and switch for less than $25. Easy and inexpensive fix.

Look in your paper work for the fireplace, that's where we found a phone number to call.

We just now started to have problems with our fireplace. Greystone WF2613R. It will come on and work fine, but once you turn it off it wont come back on. Unplug the AC or cycle the breaker for that AC circuit and it comes alive again. I suspect the over temp / thermo sensor or the circuit board or maybe the fan is slowing down and not blowing enough air and causing the unit to trip the thermo sensor. A new fan assembly was about as much cost as getting a whole new unit. Just from my preliminary search model GR54FR is the same dimensions to fit the whole. Couldn't find either the original or the replacement model in stock. For the time being we went to Menards and bought an electric space heater.

This is where I'd ask GD for matching doors for that space. It sure would make a nice deep storage cabinet. (at least in our 303 it would) and keep using the space heater.
