    Metal valve stems

Has anyone installed metal valve stems? If so, which ones did you use? Trying to make sure which ones will fit before I order them.

    Thank you!

One of the first things I did when I got my trailer so I could add my TPMS Jim. I just took my unit to my local tire shop and they added them for me. No special brand. Just make certain they are full metal and not the rubber with a metal jacket.

I know which do not fit the Reflection rims, from Myers Tire Supply, either TR500 or TR501. We had them and they did not work on the 16" Reflection rims.

I ordered four stems from Amazon, and had them installed by my local tire shop. They worked perfectly when paired up with my TPMS.

    Hi Jim,

What size are the wheels on your 337?

For my 303, I had a devil of a time, as the 15" Sumec wheels have an unusually small diameter hole for the valve stem, measuring about 0.60 across. Local auto parts stores did not sell them this small. Lionshead referred me to TiresAndWheels.Com. Took two tries, but they finally got me the right size.

The 337s have 16" rims. When we went to load range G tires, the place we had it done just ordered standard high-pressure metal stems and they went right in the 16" rims with no problem. BTW, the alloy rims on the 337s are rated for more than enough pressure to handle the 110 PSI of the load range G tires.

If my old brain was not so absent minded, I should have told you I got 5 from Westlake at the rally.
They had a bag full of them ...
My tire shop claimed they did not have any that fit my rims.

Not sure why installing a standard metal stem isn't working in the wheels. Most stems like Myers Tire Suppy part # 21583 are shipped with two grommets, a .453 and a .625. That should fit 99% of the trailer wheels out there. If you have a dealer that says no, I'd move down the road quickly to find a knowledgeable and competent dealer.

Keep in mind the training most tire techs get is minimal at best. Most work off tribal knowledge that is incorrect to start with.

The Discount Tire Company location I deal with, doesn't stock metal valve stems. Neither AutoZone, or O'Reilly stocked the size I needed and their website wasn't clear enough on the dimension. The rate limiting piece was the compression washer (if you'd call it that) was too large a diameter to drop down in the hole of my 15" Sumec wheels. In the end, I got them tracked down.
