Newbee... What is the floor construction on Reflection 5th wheels?
Hi:
I posted this question earlier along with a bunch of others in the same post. I think this question got lost ... I am looking to move up from a lightweight hybrid trailer to a 5th wheel. One of my concerns is construction of the flooring in a new unit. To save weight most "lightweight trailers" have a floor made up of a 1/4 " layer of luan Plywood, 1.5" Styrofoam, and another layer of Luan all sandwiched and glued together. Soft spots and floor rot are "common". Once water get into that thin layer of luan, de-lamination starts. I am VERY gun shy after having rebuilt the entire floor of our hybrid due to a water leak that separated the floor in the Hybrid. I do NOT want to deal with soft spots and de-lamination of a floor again (very ugly). Looking at the Rockwood signature (and Flagstaff) 5th wheels it seems that they are made the same way to save weight but with more aluminium supports.
What/how is the floor and support structure made in the smaller Reflections? Is it sandwiched Luan or 5/8 on 16” centers floor decking ? If decking, is it plywood or OSB? One piece for the length of the unit or tongue and groove?
Are you aware of anyone having "soft-spots" in the flooring with GD units?
THANKS

Hi BabyBober,
You should not hesitate to contact GDRV Customer Service directly for answers to any of your questions.
To answer part of your specific question, the 5th wheel flooring is one piece OSB.
I think it is 5/8" on 16" centers, but you would have to confirm this with GDRV directly.
There is some "flex" to the flooring (as with most RVs), but nothing that I would call a "soft spot".

THANKS! I am hoping to get more detailed answers at the Hershey RV show this weekend but trying to get as much background info addressed before hand since I am sure I will forget many of my questions when the time comes.

Yep, that's what we saw at the factory last month, 5/8" OSB on 16" centers; one big sheet.
