Extended Warranties - Are they worth it??

I passed on the extended warranty when I bought my 297RSTS, but with just the issues that have cropped up since the sale, I am reconsidering. I feel sure this has been discussed at some point in the past, but I was wondering how folks that have bought in 2015/2016 feel about them. Did you buy one? If you purchased one, did you shop around or take one the selling dealer offered? It seems a chunk of change to buy one, but one failure of a major appliance can pay for it, given the shop labor rate. Still don't know if I'll do it, but my experience so far has led me to as least consider it and if I buy one the selling dealer is offering, they won't charge a deductible if they do the work. What y'all think??(as we say in the southland)

I purchased the extended warranty. Things cost too much and also have troubles too much these days.

    Hey Joe,
I bought one just because there are so many moving parts and electrical components in the new RVs, I felt it was worth it. I shopped around and my dealer had the best price. I rolled it into my loan so it did not hurt as bad.

My take on it is as follows:

    1. If you want somebody else to perform labor when something breaks, purchase the agreement.
    2. If you do most or all repair work on your rig after the warranty, pass on the agreement.

It is a gamble. You may or may not break even. Lets say an AC goes out and you need a new one. It will probably cost $1000-$1200 to get it replaced. How much does the warranty cost? Would you be better off to put the money you'd pay for the warranty into a savings account and draw from it when it's needed?

We bought one. Haven't used it yet but we are having trouble with one of your slide outs. I have done all my own work on the trailer so far but I don't own a fork lift and if the slide needs to come out it's going to be done by the dealer. This one item could potentially pay for the insurance. It was a tough decision for us as we don't usually go for extended warranties.

We bought one from our dealer right at one year. Route 66 classic coverage. Cost $1600. We lost an axle in Alberta that cost $1350 Canadian ($1100 US) and they paid $785. We actually had more bills - alignment, a tire, frt for the axle, and I had them repack all of the bearings. But they didn't cover any of that, so with our $1800 total charge for repairs we spent about a thousand out of pocket.

As long as you have many more claims before it expires because otherwise your out of pocket was more like $2600, right? And without it you would have been $1800 out of pocket.

    Just sayin'

I have bought two. They have both paid for themselves. I don't do extended warranties for anything else.

Hey, I hear ya man .... I bought one too! Yup, even though I don't really believe in them and I was pissed when I bought one with my last 5th wheel, I fell for it again.

Here's a good laugh for you .. my last 5th wheel was 3 years old and the black tank busted, pouring you know what all over. Anyway, I proceeded to taking 3 weeks removing the enclosed coroplast belly and all the insulation and finding, ordering and installing a new black tank. Then adding new rigid insulation and some additional support (for the belly wrap sag) and when it was all done my DW asked me why I didn't have it fixed and submit to the "extended warranty" plan! DUH! I forgot all about it and fixing things myself is just second nature.

So, who wants to bet if something happens to this trailer if I try to get it fixed under the extended warranty?
