We travel thru CA fairly often and I have never given much thought to being stopped, searched and LE finding guns (loaded or otherwise) in the trailer. Truck is a different matter entirely though. Perhaps it is naive on my part but I practice "Don't ask, don't tell" and haven't had any issues thus far in any state. Won't take them into Canada but otherwise we go where we go and don't worry much about it.

I am a retired California Highway Patrolman. As I recall, in California, a firearm in an RV is considered a firearm in a domicile (with the same requirements as a house or apartment). For the most part, an officer needs to have a warrant to enter your domicile.

I do carry in my RV, however, I do have one of those retired badge and ID cards, which is endorsed for a concealed weapon. So the concern is diminished. When we begin full time, in less than 2 years I will become HR 218 certified, allowing my CCW permit on my retired ID to be valid in all 50 states.

You Sir are so lucky to have a cut and dried option. The rest of us either sort it our later if needed or always wonder if we are legal or read it right.

We will be travelling to Cal in an SUV. We will play California's game. Handgun will be unloaded in a locked case. Ammunition will be somewhere else. I feel increasingly uncomfortable travelling to states like California where self defense is so severely restricted (getting older-being more likely to be seen as prey, and with the increasing racial tensions). Don't forget that California has mandated reduced capacity magazines.

It sucks here! All these regulations that Moonbeam has been signing is greatly reducing our gun ownership rights.

That is exactly how they do it, one small bite at a time. By the time people wake up, it is all gone. And it isn't just your state, or just the gun issues.

A lot of good food for thought in the responses to this thread. My spouse and I have discussed what we would do at home if we had an intrusion. However, in the travel trailer, conditions are less than ideal. Not much maneuvering room or a place to hide. I sort of figure that if you can get armed and prepared before the intruder gets in the door, you may have a chance. If he gets inside before you realize it, it's doubtful you could get ready in time. On thing we do is keep our mobile phones and truck keys by the bedside each night, and if we hear an intruder, we can set of the truck panic alarm which may served to discourage an intruder or distract him and also alert others close by. Hope none of us have to ever face this type of situation but it pays to be ready and stay aware to what's going on around you. Thanks to everyone for your input.

Move to Oregon. Easy to get a CCL. Great camping. Good roads. Clean air. No sales tax. You just can't pump you're own gas. Bring a rain coat though.

A bit warm in the summer for us, but we do enjoy the winters there.
