    Went Truck Shopping for 2017 Ford F350

    Went to to at the Ford dealer to check on the new 2017 F350 thinking I would gain some payload and maybe justify a new truck with all the neat new towing options. Lots of confusion about the payload selector here is what is listed for the SuperCab SRW F350 on Fords page.

    GVWR 11,300 Payload 4620
    GVWR 11,400 Payload 4400
    GVWR 11,500 Payload 4100

    Edit (Just notice after yesterday the 11,400 GVWR went to 4000 from the 4400)

    Thinking that it was a typo we did a little research and it looks like the GVWR 11,300 Payload of 4620 is for gas engine only and the 11,500 are for diesel is what they explain to me. But they couldn't explain GVWR of 11,400 with 200 lbs less payload the 11,300. My 2015 SuperCab Diesel F350 webpage payload was 4150 with towing capacity of 15,900 and the yellow tag said 3744 and 3280 on the Cat Scale ready to camp.

    Axle Limits have change from the 2015
    F350 SRW 4x2 6780
    F350 SRW 4x4 7230

    Then went to the towing capacity SRW SuperCab 4X4 Diesel is 20,900. Of coarse the salesman said that only number that really counts.

    20,900 times 15% = 3135 Pin Weight
    20,900 times 20% = 4180 Pin Weight
    20,900 times 25% = 5221 Pin Weight

    Most standard rear living room 5ers come in around the 22 to 23 percent so at 22.5%. 20,900 times 22.5% = 4702 payload.

    Then I showed them the Solitude specs and after a group meeting they said the the F350 SRW would tow any one them with the 20,900 towing capacity and Ford has tested them to tow those tow weight and they are safe weights. Looking at the number they are looking at and the highest dry pin rating of 2990 the highest GVWR is 16,000 with the payload selector has 4100 and towing at 20,900 it looks like on the surface they are correct. In real world loading you are going to run out payload after loading the truck and 5er and get couple percentage creep for most the weight going forward of the axles.

    They didn’t have a F350 on the lot but we looked at a F250 and I do like the new Fords but I think I going to stick to my 3 year cycle and giving some more time to work out the bugs and read more reviews.

    I looked at a 2017 Platinum F350 Crew Cab long bed at another dealership with 3389 yellow sticker.

    We looked at the 2017 F250 XLT Lariat today. What a beautiful truck. We love our 2015 F150 and the F250 has all the same new technology. We realized when we were looking a few years age that, to really be within all the numbers for a heavy 5ver, you would need to go with an F350 DRW truck. Lots of folks haul them around with F250 SRW trucks but they are way overloaded in cargo weight in a lot of cases. Beautiful truck though. Even my spouse liked it.

    Anyone with experience on the 2017 Super Duty Rail Height? The 2017 Super duty is 3 inches taller than the previous years and the rails are 1 inch taller. That's 4 inches taller. Anyone have experience with this? I have a 2017 F350 on order...short bed. Am I going to have a problem with the height of the nose of the trailer too high and be too close at the rails/tailgate?

    I can not say about the 2017 but my 2015 and 310GK I have about 5 1/2 inch clearance and about 1 to 2 inches nose high. Note that 300GK and 310GK have the same web specs as far weight goes and I'm 180 lbs of from my GVWR of my truck with 3744 payload. When I order it the website said it had a 4050 lbs payload when I got it was 3744 and it's is basic Lariat model.

    Manufactures list the payloads on websites for the basic models. For every option that is added will take away from that posted payload. They all do this as not every truck will have the same options.

    I took some measurements and compared to my 2013 I should be 2" higher than I am now. I will have approximately 6.5" of clearance. I think our Reflection will end up 2" nose high. I may look at lifting it.
    I ordered one last week.
