    Battery Charge

Will the battery in a 303 charge from shore power with the cut off switch (in the basement) turned to "off"?

    Hi Keith,

The answer is no. The basement disconnect switch separates the converter from the battery. (I just checked )

Thanks. I will be away for about 5 weeks. The RV is in a covered lot. Supposedly, they will plug in the RV for a few days once a month if you leave an attached cord. If they miss it, with the additional parasitic drain with the switch on, the batteries might die.

Even with the switch off, the parasitic drains will kill the battery in a short time. The switch does not kill all the circuits. My suggestion is to disconnect the negative battery cable when you park the rig.

Just put a battery maintainer on the battery. It is good for the battery. Just leave a cord hanging out. Don

I agree with TucsonJim, with the negative cable disconnected, the battery will stay charged for many months.

If you disconnect the battery, be sure the fridge is not being used. It still needs the 12 volts to run on gas.

We have twin 6V's in our 303 and have had to leave it at the dealers twice for a couple of months. The first time they left the battery switch on and it killed the batteries. I had to connect he truck to get the landing gear to work. Fortunately the batteries recovered OK when charged. The second time, I made sure the batteries were switched off and they were fine when I picked the trailer up.

I think the converters in these units maintain the batteries quite well without overcharging. Ours is plugged in all the time and the batteries go through very little water over the course of a year.
