    Adding 2nd Battery. Wiring question

I am planning on adding a second battery to my 303 Reflection. My plan is to add the second battery in a mirror image of the original with factory style battery holder and vent. In looking at the factory wiring I noticed the ground wires wire nutted (loosely) together and then connected to the frame. This seemed a little sloppy so my plan was to add crimped connectors on the ends and attach each of them to the frame. My question is in the photo attached. Can someone please explain the power distribution on the photo. I would like to know what these wires are because my plan is to add an additional battery selector/cutoff switch on the wall near them. I didn't know if I should redirect some of these wires to be included in the additional cutoff switch of if for safety reasons they should be left as is. If you can't already tell, I am on the novice side of the spectrum electrically but am quite handy to do projects If I understand before I start. Thank You,
    Dennis

I'm assuming these guys are located under that black plastic cover in the front compartment, if yes the heavy red wire on the left should be the main feed (follow it back to battery)from the battery, you can run that to the input side of your master switch, get a short cable to run from the output of the switch to the connection you just removed. Here is a pix of my setup, I have an inverter, solar regulator & 12v monitor in the mix and added a terminal block for other 12v stuff I added. When my switch is off nothing is energized on the rig. I used a small piece of plywood to mount all the stuff Attachment 5683

Thanks Chuck for your reply. Very nice setup. I understand the power prior to those terminals. I guess my question was about the 9 other wires attached to the studs. Should any of those be moved to eliminate battery drain or left as they are.

as long as your master switch is hooked to the + cable from the battery there will be no power past the switch when it is off. To answer your question no don't move the other wires they are on circuit breakers there.

Thanks again. That's what I needed to know.
Your photo looks like a nice clean install.

    Hi Dennis,

    Chuck's advice is exactly correct.
You are planning what I have already done. I will dig up some photos and post tomorrow.

    Hi Dennis,

My installation is very similar in concept to what Chuck has done.
I left all the OE wiring connections as they were, except that I replace the twist on wire nuts with more appropriate vibration proof connectors, where ever I find these throughout the RV.
    See pictures attached.

I did something very similar, though I built mine into a custom battery box. The wiring in these RV's is sketchy at best in some places.. I've been updating and upgrading as I come across them, but the list seems longer and longer every other day.

You guys are running awfully large inverters for such small batteries. I was worried my two T-105 Trojans would be drained after just a day with minimal inverter usage.

Agreed that my batteries would not keep up with that inverter for very long. I installed it because I had it laying around and it is only an emergency backup or source of 120VAC while we are travelling. It powers one dedicated outlet inside the RV and another one at my workbench. We don't dry camp (on purpose )
