    Help , no heat

I have had my reflection 303 in for warranty repair three times for the heater no working. First they said it was the bug screen over exhaust would not let enough air out. Second time they said no problem found , third time they found a exhaust pipe unhooked. But here is what is going on , the heater fan comes on to exhaust for 10-15 seconds , then electronic igniter clicks and flame lights , now , some times the flame doesn't light sometimes it lights for 1-10 seconds. This heater has worked before but intermitten . Im thinking the board or the valve at the heater. I turned on gas for water heater and it's running and turned all 3 burners on stove and all full force flames . Please help , chilly in the mountains , thanks Jeremy

If it's igniting, then going out, it probably rules out the sail switch as being the culprit, but it might be worth checking anyway to see if it has full range of movement. My primary suspicion would be inadequate propane flow. Turn on all the burners on the stove top to max. Then turn on the furnace. If the burners go down or go out after the furnace ignites, then it's a propane problem.

    Hello,
You say you are in the mountains. At what elevation? Some people have reported heater problems at 7,000ft. or so.

    Hi Jeremy,

What brand of furnace do you have ? This could help the diagnostics.
I would try the manufacturer's help line. I know that Atwood has a very helpful call center.

The igniter, is sometimes the flame sensor as well. It sounds like your furnace is not sensing combustion and is shutting off the fuel flow because the sensor is not telling the control system that there is heat.

As mentioned by others, is this a problem that occurs at low vs high altitude? Do you experience the problem at home in Canyon? You've had the furnace checked three times. Has anyone actually pulled the underneath wall to look at the furnace from inside? Has your servicer attempted to verify propose flow? If you have not done so already, you should definitely be talking directly with the furnace manufacturer, and not just GD or your dealer. I also agree with Tucson Jim that you need to systematically check the propone flow. When the furnace is running and a single burner on the stove is turned on there should still be a solid flame at the stove that just reaches bottom of the grate. There has been at least one person who's furnace problem was solved when the burner alignment was changed very slightly by their service people. They had to take the furnace out and make the adjustment on a workbench. If you review this site for others with furnace issues, you will find a variety root causes, sometimes due to "improper installation." GD told me that the regulator can be adjusted to increase flow. You might call them and have them walk you thru that process...as an option. I've never messed with the regulator and frankly, was hesitant to do so. Finally, there was one person that had furnace issues that was eventually tracked down to flow restriction due to oil in the lines.

Just FYI, I am one of those people who's furnace does not work over 5,000ft. Works fine at low altitude. I'm still chasing a viable solution. Attwood sent me a replacement exhaust fitting, but I can't test it out until I'm back in the mountains...and even so it will cumbersome to actually use it.

If you up at a high altitude, you may have the same problem I had (as well as others). The burner would light for a few seconds then go out. We were at 9500' at the time. The problem appears to be lack of oxygen. The Atwood furnace has not worked well for us at higher altitude. I know that Happy Kansan had a repair sent to them that solved their problem this summer. I would call GD or Atwood for assistance.

We were at 8800 ft, it is a atwood heater. They said it worked at home but I have not seen it work yet, but will try in the morning. We just got home. I keep thinking it is propane problem or board shutting propane off. Weird how sometimes it doesn't light and sometimes flame comes on for 10-15 seconds. I had no meters or anything to test will I was in mountains , next trip will take meters with me.

But on a side note this heater did the exact same thing the day we picked it up at our home elevation

Atwood sent us a new unit which has worked ok at this point. We were at 8000' feet this summer with no problems. Since sending me a new unit, as I said, I think they have came up with an easy install repair kit.
