Heads up for those converted to disk brakes or MorRyde

Check your spare to make sure it still fits! Had a chance to use my spare when a wheel cracked and the spare didn't clear the brake caliper. Ended up having to go buy a 1" stem (2" was OEM) and then flip the wheel backwards so it could clear the caliper by about 1/16". Worked okay but made me a bit nervous and was impossible to check/add air without removing the tire.

Thinking this is a 17.5" only issue as the 16" steel wheel appears to have more offset and should clear the caliper. But it would pay to check prior to needing to use the spare.

Also, trailertireandwheel.com has the factory wheels available online (Lynx black) and will ship same day. Interesting conversation with those guys and they recommended NOT replacing all wheels with a different brand/style as the aluminum wheels have the same low failure rate across brands. They indicated it was less than 1% failure rate overall.

When I conversed mine, I bought a new wheel for a spare. I also upgraded to 14 ply tires, stock rim was only good for 80 PSI

Oddly, my rig came through with 5 aluminum wheels...also I was one of the first to push the option of Good Year tires, so the upgrade is probably the reason.

That good news, Mike! I was hoping you would see this as you would probably be in the same boat.
Was a damn fine steel wheel I gave away today. Was going to keep it and then thought... Why? I won't be home for at least 6 months and it's just more crap to find a place for. Pretty maxed out on extra junk atm.

    Chris,

Thanks for the heads up anyway...you are right, we are heading to MorRyde for a November 14th appointment. When I had the flat last October, I was shocked to see the spare with a matching aluminum wheel. I truly expected a steel wheel. Made it easy though, I left the spare on and had the flat repaired and put that under as the spare.
