    oven pilot light picture

I have used my gas oven once in 2 years and had trouble getting the pilot light lit that one time. I'll need to use it over Thanksgiving and can't remember exactly where on the pilot light assembly to apply the lighter. (Lighting gas ovens scare the bejeebers out of me!)

Can somebody provide a picture of a lit pilot light? Having a picture might alleviate the fear that I'm going to blow my head off!

    Hi Kathy,

I think I can take the stress out of lighting the oven pilot . Three important things . . .
    1) Find a lighter with a built in LED. This makes locating the right spot for lighting, much easier.
    2) Start the lighter, before you turn the knob to "Pilot" and press it in. This will make lighting a very gentle process.
    3) Remember to hold the knob in for maybe 10 seconds until the thermocouple above the flame is hot and will keep the gas flowing.

In the picture, because of the flash, it is a little difficult to see the blue flame above the pilot jet and below the thermocouple.
That is the spot you are aiming for with the lighter.

    Hope this helps.
