I feel your pain. My 2017 GD Solitude's front awning crashed a couple of days ago. Downpour and the top 2 bolts of the front arm pulled completely out of the side wall. Both arms are damaged, waiting on parts. I'm told the arms have been redesigned. I just joined this forum and haven't seen a way to post photos. If I can... I will post photos once repaired, (this week).

I have seen in person the gas struts collapse and dump water during heavy downpours. Kind of scary the first time it happens!

Wife and I have a 2019 375RES. Finally getting to really use it and am loving it more each day. Do have one question though. Am wondering if it is possible to get a larger awning that will also cover the dining room slide. Am getting wet using the steps when it is raining. Looked at getting a slide cover but the closeness of the slide to the awning arm could possibly cause issues, I believe, and would still not solve the issue with getting wet entering and leaving the camper while it is raining. We do not leave the awning out when we are away from the camper and do bring it in when weather is bad. Any suggestions or thoughts on using a larger awning or other possible solutions?

There may not be enough support built into the wall where a longer awning arm would sit. Some use a large umbrella and set it on the slide and awning , Securing it so it won't fly off if it's breezy.

    thanks for any help,
Probably carefree longitude. We have a Momentum 349M with carefree and have replaced the arms twice. We are very cautious and retract our awnings anytime the wind or rain picks up. The arms we lost were installation issues or just plain sorry arms. We will always pay to upgrade away from Carefree. We just ordered a Solitude 375RES and are upgrading the main awning to a Solera. Some dealers are installing Solera on all their new RVs. One such is Explore USA in Texas.

I know this is an old thread, but our 2019 Solitude awning arm broke at the door side in a passing evening shower (2nd trip). No real wind, but 5 minutes of rain. It fractured at the top pivot of the gas cylinder and slammed into the slide window. scared the hell out of us around the fire.

These awnings have a design flaw. If the dealer hadn't been able to get us a replacement arm at a discount, I would have happily paid to upgrade to a Dometic 9000 series awning. Our last trailer had a 21 foot domestic 9000 series and they self dump and close if there is too much rain or wind. The only issue we ever had with the Dometic 9000 was during Hurricane Sandy... which dropped a tree branch on the awning while rolled up. If this damn arm breaks again, I'm paying for the Dometic.

The funny thing is that the Reflections come with the better Dometic 9000 series awning.
