I think it looks like a test of the lamination/bonding process of the inner core material to the outer skin. Bubbles can appear later if the two are not bonded well.

(I think) The "pull" is pulling on the skin, to see what it takes to separate from the foam core. The adhesive between the wall and the foam is what is under tension.

I saw a demo many years ago, that took a 4' X 7' section of laminated wall from motor home, placed it on two saw horses, two big guys climbed on, walked to center, it bent but didin break

Yep looks like a very clever bond strength test. But they should give that guy a power screwdriver.

    Jim,
He's using a dial torque wrench. Notice he sets it before using it. I would venture to guess there is a specification for the bond. Could be done with a power screwdriver but not as cheaply

My suggestion for a power screw driver was for use in tightening the two bolts that hold the test specimen to the test fixture. Looks like the bolts are little more than hand tight and he could whip through all those samples a bit faster using a simple power tool to run in the mounting bolts. Might keep a robot from applying for his job.

Today is a bit cold by South TX standards at 50 degrees, which in comparison sounds like sun bathing temps for you however the month of January certinaly still provides a fair amount of 70-80 degree temps. Feel free to reach out to me for any needs in advance. I am true foodie and craft beer connoisseur so I would be glad to offer recomendations anywhere within the state as I am pretty well versed having traveled in my last career for 2 decades.
