Winegard Pathway X2 Temporary Roof Mounting
Too many words in my Thread Title but I have the above mentioned satellite antenna and I also have the compatible tripod but I am looking for solutions for occasionally setting it up on the roof. I checked online and there are ladder mounts for many of the Winegard antennas, including the X1, but none list the X2.
I've sent an email to Winegard to ask why it won't work with the X2 when the mounting plate looks exactly like the mounting plate on my tripod but who knows if I'll get an answer.
So my question is if anyone has done anything like this? I once set my tripod on the roof but I was in an area where there was no wind so I was fairly confident it wouldn't go anywhere but there are lots of spots where I can't really set it out (space issues) and I don't like the idea of setting it up there with nothing securing it.

Paul, put a screw eye in the roof and seal it with Decor. Then use a snug bungee cord to hold it in place, even when windy. I've also used a sand bag to strap it down.

My friend had one and just used sandbags on the roof and used tie downs attached to the bags. Worked fine for a temp setup.

I'm guessing you rope it up to the roof? I have the same satellite and just take the rope I use to rope it up with and wrap it around the AC. I don't use the tripod on the roof. Not sure why you would anyway. Just find the flattest area up there and set it down. Take the rope and loosely tie it around the AC shroud. I can't imagine the type of wind needed to blow it over. Theft would be non issue as well up on the roof.

Well, I called Winegard and they told me that the X2 is not recommended for their ladder mount while traveling. Well I never said I was going to leave it there while underway. Anyway, I decided to use your suggestion Jim. I think it will work perfectly. We'll see in Quartzsite

Dang it. I'm packing for the Quartzsite trip and just found out that my tripod must have burned in the fire. Oh well, thanks to Amazon, I'll have a nice shiny new one tomorrow.
