    Bed Rail Clearance

Picking up a new 303RLS on Saturday and had a question about bed rail clearance. I have a GMC Sierra 2500HD and wondered if anyone had any experience with this truck and the 303 in regards to clearance height? I understand 6 inches in the recommended space so just hoping it has that much when I hook it up at the dealer.

You are correct, 6 inches is the goal for clearance over the bed rails.

My 303RLS was a perfect match for the bed height of my 2013 Silverado 3500HD. For what its worth, it has the Z71 package, but only 2WD (my preference!). If you want a height at my bed rails, will be help happy to run out to the truck later today.

    Congratulation and safe travels!

Thanks Tom. I have the z51 as well but with 4x4. The bed of my truck seems high but just hoping it goes well when hooking up for the first time on Saturday . I also bought a fold a cover for the bed but think it might sit too high when folded up by the back of the bed. Will test that next week when the cover gets installed

I had a hard folding cover on my 2013 Chevy 2500 and hit several times backing into sites that were not level. Sold it (more like gave it away) and replaced with a soft roll up cover and never had a problem. Now my 2016 3500 also has a roll up cover.

Jeremy--the Superglide will (our version does) provide for 6+" of clearance with our 2012 GM model style. Not certain of your newer body style 2017 if the bottom of box to top of rail measurement or your Superglide measurements are different but I would suspect little if any.

We also tow with the Extang tri-fold cover left on and the beauty of the Superglide autoslider is that as you turn the fiver nose slides back from possible contact with the hard tri-fold cover in most "normal" turning situations......very nice. However, in more extreme turns/backing situations where the fiver (left or right corner) nose may be above the cover and you encounter a tipping situation with the fiver, you could contact as the clearance is less than the normal 6+" we have.

I have not measured how extreme of a turn it would take for the fiver nose to start hovering over the tri-fold cover......will have to check it out this spring. So far in our 9000+/- miles of towing, we have not experienced any situations where we have made contact. Looking in the mirrors, it looks like a possible "kiss" but when getting out to check, the slider has moved back and thus the nose is several inches behind the tri-fold cover.

Thanks Dan, that's great information. Just to clarify, did you make any adjustments to the hitch or the pin box or you got 6in+ of clearance with the "default" settings on both?

Correct--no changes to hitch or pin box were made. Our SG does not have any vertical adjustments only horizontal adjustments by relocating the hitch "feet" where the four pins hook from them into the truck bed rails.
