I have 2016 2500HD 4x4 Z71 and tow 2017 Reflection 318. The only difference between your 2500HD and the 3500HD is the leaf springs. I believe the 3500HD has an additional overload spring which gives you an additional 1500lbs payload approx. You have the same frame, axles, brakes, tires and rims, engine and tranny, at least I know I do on my 2016. You could, and I have been thinking of replacing the leaf springs on mine with the 3500 leafs. Doesn't change the sticker, but you would then have same capacity as the 3500 without having to swap trucks. I also have seen other people say so, but not confirmed myself, that if you have the springs swapped out at a DOT certified shop, they can put an addendum sticker on the truck saying it has been certified with the additional capacity. Here is some info on that http://fifthwheelst.com/altering_veh...ification.html

The statement below is from your link and I believe this for companies that addons before the vehicle is titled for the first time. Like Ford shipping a cab and frame to the "Alterer", they build it into a Class C and put a tag alongside the original from the factory. This not someone owning a truck and bring it in and have different springs on it.

"The Legal definition: "Alterer means a person who alters by addition, substitution, or removal of components (other than readily attachable components) a certified vehicle before the first purchase of the vehicle other than for resale."
