Which model do you tow with your 2500 diesel???

Hello all.....my wife and I have been RVing for about 7 yrs now and are looking to go full-time in a year or two once we retire. We are sold on Grand Design but unsure of which model. We definitely want a 5th wheel but are kind of limited due to my truck. I have a 2015 Silverado 2500 crew cab Duramax. So I ask.....what are you towing with your 2500 diesel?

    Thanks everyone!!!

Well....according to the GM sales brochure the 5th wheel towing limit for my crew cab, standard bed, 4x4 should be 17.1k lbs!! But I've been told by others smarter than me that I should be looking at the 14k range. The tag on the inside of the drivers door says payload is 2590. But if my RAWR is 6200 lbs and my drive axle actually weighs 3120......how can the payload be only 2590? Shouldn't it be 3080? My tire max rating is 3195 lbs/tire....6390 lbs total.

When I had the conversation with the area fleet manager at GMC about can you exceed the GVWR (payload) to load to GAWR he said there has been a lot confusion on that subject has been generated on the internet. He sent me a link to the GMC official/legal stance on the subject.

Even with that many on here have stated that the Cat scale pin weight of Reflections 337 is over 3,000 lbs so add 200 lbs hitch and 400 pounds of people in the truck you would need a 3600 lbs payload.

We have a 2008 GMC 2500 duramax. We love it. It does a fine job of making mountains seem flat. We're currently towing a 2011 Montana 3160rl. We've been looking at the Solitude 300GK. We're planning on using our truck to pull the next trailer we buy.

I tow a 323BHS with my properly equipped but older F250 rated to tow 13,200. The trailers' dry weight is 11K/2K lbs., which is enough for me.

Most Solitudes would be best handled by a dually 1 ton truck.

TSM -- for GM and I trust other manufacturers as well, the payload is established by subtracting the truck curb weight (full of fuel and driver for GM) as built at the factory from the GVWR limit which for your truck which is probably 10,000#s for Duramax 2500HDs built at least from 2011 (maybe earlier as well) forward. Yes springs and tires for your/my/others P/U trucks are much higher in most cases. I had the same question nearly 3 years ago and reading our Owners Manual (always dangerous) stated that the higher spring/tire ratings are to account for various P/U load imbalances that can occur between inside cab/box front to back and side to side.

By the way, as to original question in your first post you can see we have a 303......great match for our P/U.

Pull whatever your pickup can handle and whatever your comfort zone is, if it is 303 behind 550 or a 369 behind a 250 (2500) great!! Just get r done!!
