Is a stock 32 gal fuel tank adequate for a diesel?

Highly recommend a Titan tank over an aux tank. More specifically I am referring to the Titan tank that replace the factory tank - so still just one filling point and nothing in the bed. I had one in my 2007 3500 (60 gallon) and I put one in my 2014 3500 (55 gallon). They use the same mounting points and lift pump setup. No modifications required. They are absolutely great. We still plan our fuel stops extensively, but we plan them to the cheapest options to save as much money as possible. It also lets us have more flexibility at our on-the-road nights. We share the driving and to make better times on long hauls it allows us to use any pull-off to switch and get moving again without the 30 plus minute hassle of getting into a station and filling up at every driver change. And for fuel apps - GasBuddy works really well.

To your original question... as others have said, it depends on what you're pulling and how/where you travel. Our stock tank is 37 gallons and I usually count on about 375 miles range under normal conditions. We got caught in west Texas (I-10) over a holiday a couple of years ago and were starting to sweat it. West Texas, though, is like a "whole other planet."

Go for the 337 or it will always be in the back of your mind and you'll be wishing you had.

We went through the 303/337 thing just a couple of months ago. I knew my F250 gasser would be marginal, and it is, but the 337 is so comfortable and without compromises that I don't care.

The only time I really wished for more than my 32 gallons was when evacuating from S Florida before Hurricane Irma this year. Finding diesel was easy enough but it required getting into some pretty tight stations. We did not travel interstates for the evacuation as they were pretty much a parking lot. Having a 400 - 500 mile range would have made a pretty easy trip and kept us out of the small crowded stations that we dealt with. But all things considered I'll probably put a Titan tank into our truck next year. It will mean almost never needing to fuel up with the trailer in tow.

Ok, I have to throw a wrench into the works. We utilize a 90 gallon gravity feed tank in the bed of the truck. After pulling the 305RE for the last three years, I would not want to go back to a stock tank only, even though it's 37 gallons. The few times I have stopped for fuel with the trailer, it always brings out the pucker factor big time. Once or twice I have tried fueling in the truck stops, the entire time feeling intimidated by the truckers. Could be because I can't move as fast as they can, or whatever. With the extra fuel, I usually don't stop until the trailer is set up. The other thing to consider is not filling the tank all the way, if you are worried about the weight.

We refuel in the truck lanes all the time and I've never felt "intimidated." In fact, I find most of the truckers quite friendly and some are even curious about our lifestyle. The large diameter nozzles and high-flow pumps do the job very quickly and I pull forward to let the next trucker in to the pumps if I'm going inside to make a pit stop or get a receipt. I'd say I refuel without the trailer hitched up less than 5% of the time. If it's not a truck stop, I eyeball the canopy very closely or ask before pulling under. My biggest frustration at the non-truck stops is the folks who, with five or six other lanes open, decide they're going to block the only diesel pump with a gas-powered car...
