I tow a 3100RD with a 2019 F150 3.5 Eco. All in all, not a bad tow. Plenty of power and pickup. Mileage isn’t bad at 10 plus or minus. I needed a truck that would fit in the garage (HOA restrictions). BUT if I could, I’d rather have the F250 for the extra safety margin. Still, am happy with the 150.

The HDTP isn't the same as the HDPP thats on the F150. The F150 Super Crew with 6.5 bed has a much higher tow rating and payload than an Exp Max with the HDTP.

Buy a F350 w/7.3L. You will have enough truck when you upgrade you trailer and with your 2500RL it will tow your 2500RL effortlessly. A F350 vs F250 cost is minimal. They ride the same unloaded.
I went through owning a 2800BH and a F150 w/3.5L. I pulled great BUT it was squirmy. 3 months later we traded the 2800BH for a 337RLS 5th wheel and traded the F150 for a diesel F350.
If you have time order a new Ford Truck from Chapman Ford of Horsham https://www.chapmanfordhorsham.com/ They will order a new truck for 4% BELOW INVOICE, which is about 9% below stickerLast edited by Jerryr; 01-10-2022 at 02:47 PM.

Another vote for skipping the 3/4 ton. For a minimum investment you will have more truck than you will ever need... Possibly.
Unless you live in an area that severely penalizes you for going over 10k lbs. If so do what makes sense for you. Good luck with your decision.2021 Reflection 340RDS

The 3/4 ton F250 is hands down a much better towing ride than the F150, it’s much more solid. One note, if you go with 3/4 ton get the gas engine because you will get a lot more payload than the diesel. If you get the 3/4 ton in diesel you will end up with less payload than the F150. If you want diesel then get the 1 ton with the 11400 GVWR.

Thanks everyone for your willingness to chime in and give helpful advice to a newbie. Your many responses have been very helpful. I am definitely going to go to the bigger truck and engine. I am probably going to order the 250 with the 7.3LV8. I will be using the truck primarily for towing since I have recently retired and so don't do much non-TOW driving. So am willing to take a hit in MPG for the bigger engine in order to help with the hills. I do need to make a decision if I order to go with either the 3.55 of 4.3 axle ratio. Should I start a new thread? I have read some posts and it seems to be more leaning towards 4.3 but some say 3.55 is fine.

With a gasser I'd go with the 4:3. Some will say your mpg will suffer but from what I've seen with the modern trucks it's minimal.

Can’t speak to a 250, but for the F150 when it went to the 10 speed trans from 6 speed, the difference in towing with the 3.31 or 3.55 virtually disappeared. You may find your choice will be more for gas Economy than for towing.
