I’ve noticed quite a few threads discussing this topic and thought I would post a photo showing what it looks like.

Notice the “popped” capacitor in the photo (bottom right). It should be a perfect cube. The bulging sides and top indicate the need to replace the control board.

In our case, this caused us to lose functionality of the LP water heater.
The electric water heater still worked even with this popped cap.
