I would agree with mixing old hardened grease with new for a every 1 or two year repack. But with barring buddy's, every few months your adding a shot of new grease before the old grease breaks down. As with any bearing pack I believe it's most important to always use the same type of grease. Don't mix lithium with EP or synthetic with non synthetic, unless it's an emergency.

The intent of the service requirement by both LCI and Dexter to hand repack the bearings is to inspect the bearings for abnormal wear, to replace the rear seal and to inspect the brakes. Looking for an easy way out by using the zerk nipple to add more grease is not going to accomplish any of these service requirements. These are not "Bearing Buddy" hubs . . . they do not have pressure discs and springs. Grease does not "go away" or "wear out" by itself in an RV hub. If the bearings and grease are good, nothing needs to be added. If the grease is deteriorating or disappearing, the reason for this needs to be found and corrected. Pulling the hubs is not nearly as daunting as some on this thread fear that it is. There is no easy way around doing it right.

I totally agree Rob. When I hear people talking about using the bearing buddies makes me think of the trailers I see on the side of the road where a wheel has come off.
