OK, that's way more corrosion than I was expecting to see.
Must have sat in the water like you said.

Some on this forum have had good results with this replacement cord and better than OE junction box.
(I bought one just to have for a spare!)

Yea it would be a good idea to get a spare. Who knows how far up that kind of corrosion could have gone.

After seeing that corroded plug, I would put a new one and toss the original...or maybe keep it for a spare depending on how it cleans up.

Wasn't even thinking of using it, got a new one ordered. If you look close one of the connectors is completely gone never seen anything like this before.

Dick 641 - That looks like electrolytic corrosion. Which would be quite possible with DC voltage present, if the end of the cord was dangling in salty water. A new cord and making sure it stays dry when stored, sounds like a good plan.

Don't know where the salty water would come from haven't been anywhere close to the oceans.

Road salt could do it . . . I wonder if there is a puddle in the pin box that doesn’t get flushed out? The salt would stay, even if the water evaporated.

I've never pulled in winter or any bad weather but could see that happening.

    WirthCo 20081 7-Way Trailer Plug Cover, 1 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072J5VZ4C..._ZJ-qBbRJVJ5RF

I use these 7-way covers on my work trailers. I add a dab of dielectric grease from time to time to help keep moisture out during extended storage periods. I like the notch to secure to the cable while towing.

Just a thought on electrolysis... the 7-way is connected to the + and - of the batteries correct? Sitting in water in pin box could be source of electrolysis. My $0.02 for today.
