Impact of options on tongue weight?

I asked GD what the impact of the weight of options would be to pin weight on a 310GK-R or 344GK-R. I could see the response making some sense for things like dual pane windows but less so for something like a generator or washer/dryer (sorry left slide rule and physics back in the '70s)?

"This should have very little impact on tongue weight and your payload. Same with pin weight."

How do you gauge an accurate tongue weight prior to ordering since the UVW will be different then what is posted for the stock floor plans?

Hi , pound for pound , washer/dryer and generator both sit up front in and under the nose and will add what ever they weigh to the pin weight.

    My trailer GD Reflection 315rlts

When I look at published specs (8994 versus an actual of 9500) for my trailer it made a difference 90 pounds. This is empty weight and does not account for batteries, or propane. Add those in (another 260 pounds of weight now takes the trailer to 9760 pounds.

Tongue Weight starting point is GVWR X .15 for worst case

For Pin Weight, GVWR X .25

Always best to weight it for exact numbers.

Published weight 8994 TW 1349 pounds
    Actual UVW 9500 TW 1425
Batteries and Propane 9760 TW 1464
    GVWR 10995 TW 1649

    GD Published TW 1065

Published Tongue Weight or Pin Weight are fiction.

Impact on ccc is a direct reduction.

    In my case
    10995 - 8994 = ccc of 2001
    10995 - 9500 = ccc of 1495
    10995 - 9760 = ccc of 1235

    I hope this makes sense.

    Good Luck,
    Bill

    Bill,
Thanks, it certainly does help. Nothing to put on the scales yet except a tow vehicle. I plan on taking it to the local Pilot to get the actuals with wife and I and full tanks. I don't know how many of the options we would order, but with GD sunsetting the 344GK in favor of the 345GK which is 3 inches length and is 720lbs heavier, I'm not getting a warm fuzzy on the weight of the 345GK based on a couple of prototypes for the model and GDs response on what they added to make it that much heavier (104lbs heavier on pin weight which is less than 15%). So options at the front of the unit as @WhittleBurner noted are likely to be pound for pound adds to pin weight.

Thanks all as we are prepping for an order maybe late this year.
    cheers,
    John

I would assume that 23% or higher of GVWR for your pin weight on a fifth wheel. Anything less and you are fooling yourself in my opinion.

Here are the weights from my 3740BH-R. It has a 2900# pin weight empty with no options according to GD - obviously that is a fiction.

On my most recent weigh in, we had all the food in our house loaded as we were leaving for a multi-month trip, so the trailer was stupid overweight in the back.
