Here's how you do it (according to my wife):

    1- Press the Convection button
2- Enter desired temp (e.g. 350 is the number "7" on the number pad)
    3- Press Start button

This starts to preheat the convection oven. When it reaches 350 degrees, it will beep to let you know it's at 350. Time to throw the apple pie in to bake :-)

That sounds spot on from when we had a convection microwave.

Let us know what time to come over for apple pie, I'll bring some ice cream [emoji16]

    Thanks again,
Just to clarify, when using a microwave/ convection oven on convection, you're not using the microwave part. It has a heating element and works like a regular oven.

I went the opposite route. Our High Point microwave was replaced 3 times, they kept dying. Finally I just bought a residential microwave and installed it. The residential convection ovens had terrible reviews and I didnt want to spend $1000 on something with those kind of reviews.

I don't know how to use a convection oven. I've tried to use it a couple of times in the RV. Not successfully (I guess I'm too old to learn a new skill). When this unit goes belly up (as I expect it will) we will replace it with just a microwave. I have an oven that I do use.

Honestly, one of the reasons we picked the rig we did was due to the large cabinet next to the microwave in the models we looked at. There aren't a lot of large spaces for putting bigger items inside the rig. Sad to say, by the time we bought our rig, they had replaced the (smaller) microwave with a (larger) convection/microwave, halving the size of the cabinet next to it.

Luckily it's an easy swap. Two screws hold it in place above the microwave and it sits on a bracket. I did have to install a new bracket for the new microwave, other than that, fairly easy.

When you select convection-then the temp-then hit start—-the unit will come on and start the preheat process. It will beep when you reach the temp. You then have about 2 minutes to open the door- place your dish in-shut the door-then add your baking time. Don’t forget to hit the start button again!!! Away you go! Sometimes in the middle I will open it and turn my dish around if I’m using the stationary rack. If I’m using the round one and rotating I don’t do anything. If you try it a couple of times you will see how easy it truly is!!

I’m 70 years old and learned to use the convection ruin microwave a few months ago and now I use it often. I had to read the directions to figure it out at first, it wasn’t intuitive, at least for me. In a regular oven I would use the broiler setting to make toast but the convection oven doesn’t have a broiler setting and our propane oven doesn’t have enough space under the flame to insert a broiler pan and broil anything. We use a toaster for toast or a skillet (electric skillet or a skillet on the propane stove top) to cook French toast. I’ve used the convection oven to cook baked potatoes, pies, breads, casseroles, cornbread dressing, meats (including final cook of tenderloin steaks I first pan seared... my husband said best he’s ever had ;-)). I find using the turntable with the stand cooks the most evenly. Before I read the directions, I tried to input the temperature by touching the individual numbers, ie. 3,5,0 for 350 degrees... doesn’t work like that. You have to look at the individual numbers and you’ll see some have smaller numbers on them like 350 or 375 or 400. Those are the numbers you use for convection cooking. And I get better results when I preheat. I haven’t tried the combination microwave/ convection oven function yet, but I ll soon get out my owner’s manual to read those directions and give that a try too.
