    I think it really depends on what type of camping you will be doing, and if you plan to be using an inverter or not.

    If you will be using your unit off-grid or have a residential refrigerator, LiFePO4 (lithium) batteries would be good. Lead-acid batteries require regular care and only avail themselves of about half the rated output before damage is done (LiFePO4 is near 100%). Cost wise, the lithium batteries are quite a bit more expensive - but you get many more charge/discharge cycles out of them (longer life span), making them a good investment if you're in it for the long run.

    Whatever you decide, be aware that using two 6 volt batteries in series to get 12 volts does not double the amp hours - just the voltage. Using two 12 volt batteries in parallel for a 12 volt system doubles the amp hours available.

    My 2 cents is that AGMs are out of the picture. Except for the rebranded Deka at Sam’s that never seems to be in stock, their advantages don’t out weigh the cost. Walmart 12V deep-cycles on the low end, Sam’s Club 6V golf car batteries as a step up, then you might as well jump to lithium. If you boondock, lithium is the best deal.

    If you plug in all the time, then you can happily use a smallish 12v lead acid. If you want to do off grid, then it depends on how long, what you want to run, and what kind of recharging you can do - generator, solar, etc. The more of the first two, or the less availability of the recharging, the more capacity you want.
    Batteries vary a lot in capacity, but in very general terms:
    2 6v can have about double the run time, or a bit more, of a medium size 12v. Two large 12v will about equal the capacity of the 2 6v, and give you a backup if one fails. But there is a jump in cost and weight. One 100 amp lithium will give about the same useable amount as 2 6 volt, for greater cost but much, much less weight and space. The lead-acids need more routine care and feeding - checking electrolyte levels, not running below 50% of capacity, etc. Lithium's need upgraded chargers, and cannot be used (recharged) in below freezing temps unless in a warmer area or equipped with heating pads. Lead-acids charge comparatively slowly, so can take a longer time. With the right equipment, lithium's can be recharged very quickly. A lead-acid is a bit more forgiving of abuse (discharging too much, etc.) but may have shortened overall life. Lithium's can be killed by even just once abusing them - BUT most come with special circuitry that will prevent that from ever happening. Lithium's can have a much, much longer life than lead acids.
    In the end - determine the use you will be putting it to. Then determine the cost you are willing to pay up front. And then factor in the long term cost of replacements. It's not "Which is best" but "Which best balances your criteria for capacity, cost and care".
    Weekend camper always at full hookup campgrounds? - a cheap group 24 12v may be all you ever need. Out in the desert for weeks at a time? - Even 4 lithium's may not be enough....

    Lithium batteries, unless you can't afford them. You could always hold a cardboard sign on the side of the road and state you want to buy some lithium batteries for your RV. I would contribute a couple dollars and I don't give money to anyone......but my wife. She gets all of it.
