3740bh 2500hd
Pretty excited to go pick up our new Solitude S-Class. Installing the B&W Patriot 18k slider in my 2016 2500HD Duramax SRW short bed. Wondering what everyone’s thoughts or experiences are towing this unit with a comprible rig? We won’t be going far or often. Two or three hundred miles each way four times annually on low flat ground. Thanks for any and all feedback.

What’s your yellow tag payload? My 3500 SRW is barely enough. Hitch weight has to be subtracted from available payload as does passengers. My autoslide with puck adapter is around 300lbs. With my 3840lbs payload I have little left over with the 3740BH.

Yikes, 2135. Can that be correct? The unit has a hitch weight of 2900, right? So with passengers and the weight of the hitch I’ll be 1000lbs over...I best start looking for a new truck.

Most 3/4T trucks, especially if they are CrewCab, 4x4, Diesel are going to have payloads in the 2100 to maybe 2200/2300 lbs of payload capacity. The same truck with a gas motor might get you another 500 lbs or so payload, but, it's still too small for a 3740 BH. That trailer shows a GVWR of 16,000 lbs, which if loaded to that weight would put a minimum of 3200 lbs of pin weight on the truck. 5ver hitch adds another 150-200 lbs depending on which one you get. Than add in everything else....passenger(s), toolbox, extra fuel, firewood, grill....anything and everything that goes in and on the truck. You could very easily be looking at 4000 lbs total if fully loaded. Very few 1 Ton trucks have that payload, especially the ones the everyone wants.....CrewCab, 4x4, diesel, higher level of trim (not a stripped down work truck). Only you know what you will or will not pack when you are ready to go camping, so 4000 lbs that I spoke of earlier might be high, or it might even be a little low...depends on how much stuff you take. Suffice to say, the 3/4T truck is way undersized, the SRW 1Ton may or may not be enough, but the 1Ton DRW trucks will have you covered nicely. My advice, sit down and start looking at all the things I mentioned above and try to get a number that will likely be what you take when you camp. Don't try to cheat the system and figure low on purpose....it'a always better to have too much capacity than not enough.....and don't ask me how I know, it's too long of a story and it makes me sad everytime I type it.

Great info. I really appreciate it. Looks like I'll hire a transporter unless I can get a bigger rig sooner.

You're welcome....and thanks to being "open" to suggestions from some of us that have made a costly mistake in the past. Hiring a transporter might be the best course of action until you get something large enough to handle the trailer. Good luck and hopefully you find exactly what you want in a T.V. soon....

If it’s a new 3740BH they upped the GVW to 16,800... but still advertise it at 16,000. My dry hitch weight from factory was 2870 (that’s with empty propane and unloaded).

Our 3350 S is closer on side to side weights. Way too much trailer for a 3/4 ton and a lot of 1 ton SRW.
Right now we have it lightly loaded for weekenders and some week trips. When we go full time and load it up then I'll get the pin weighed. I have a sherline scale but I would have to change the scale and get the adapter for the 5th wheel pin.Last edited by Steven@147; 04-29-2019 at 01:33 PM.
