What is easiest/best way to clean awning and remove mildew?

So first trip of the season. Always curious what if anything is going to not work/require fixing after 6 mo hibernation. The only thing I found was that we must have rolled up the awning wet and it has developed a serious malodor and mildew while in storage. What is the best and easiest way to clean off this mildew and eliminate the odor from the awning fabric- are chemicals such as diluted bleach safe?

Well...here is what worked and did not work for me today. First I went to the dollar store and picked up some Awesome brand cleaner. Read on another forum to simply spray on- wait an hour or two, unroll and rinse off. Didnt work at all for me. Then I tried spraying and using a soft bristle brush on an extension pole- worked sorta. Then I sprayed the Awesome, let sit 5 minutes and in the meantime put a bit of Ajax in a wash bucket and used a microfiber mop head on an extension pole- BINGO. The mildew, dirt bugs of 2 years camping seasons came off instantaneously. This thing looks brand new and took probably 30 min once I figured it out

Before doing this I did stake the front down so I could put a little pressure on the underside with the mophead without breaking the awning arms.

After 2 years of doing the spray on solution, roll up, wait, rinse, on our awning, it’s looking rather shabby, don’t you think?

After spring camping, I came up with the idea to stop in the driveway, in front of the garage, roll out the awning and wash it. Our problem here is that in any fairly level spot on our property where we could put the trailer and open the awning, there’s a big unlevel dropoff in front of it. Hose, cleaner (Bass Pro Mold and Mildew Remover for VINYL), bucket, brush, extension handle all at the ready, and on the way home (head smack), I realize the awning is on the street side (another dropoff). So, there’s only one spot left, and Bruce skillfully backed Granny down the hill, behind the house.

Washed the awning, standing on the porch roof. The mold and mildew remover worked well, but was supposed to be a spray, wait and rinse. The awning needed 2 scrubbings (soft bristle brush). This is done, still wet.

This is after it dried. Hoping to protect it, I mopped on a coat of Lucas Speed Wax.

Really happy with the outcome. I was afraid it wouldn’t come clean.

Sorry, I meant the awning was on the curbside of the trailer (which faced our street when we got home). N

Bleach, joy, and water in a bug sprayer. Spray the awning, roll up for 15 minutes, unroll, hit with soft brush and rinse. Works every time.

It does all sound so easy. Have done this 2x per year since August of 2017. However, there was no possible way to reach it with a brush, as we had no level surface upon which to place a ladder. Wherever the trailer was parked at home, there was just enough space beside it to have 1 level foot beyond the bottom of the stairs. I would put the ladder on either end, and hose the solution off with the pressure washer, but the pressure washer didn’t force the grime off-too much give in the awning. I just find it hilarious that I have to climb on my house (and a 5’ concrete block wall) to clean the top of our RV. We own a very sturdy 12’ ladder with only a select few places we can set it up, namely, next to the house and next to the barn.

Haven't tried it, but a tech at LazyDays told us to use "Scrubbing Bubbles" shower cleaner on the awning
