Anyone ever use one of these propane filling devices
Wife showed me a video on facebook where someone used a gadget like this to fill 1lb propane tanks.
Thought it was kinda neat. Anyone use one? Does it work as advertised?

I use a similar gadget that screws onto a 20 pound tank.
It fills the small tanks to about 80%
Good enough for me.

I've used a similar device like that since the mid 80s. I used the 14oz and 16oz bottles for a couple of Coleman lanterns while deer hunting.

The reason you can’t fill them is they are full of gas/air. Adding liquid compresses the gas and eventually stops flow into the bottle. Using a very small set of forceps, you can release the overpressure valve on the small tank to allow it to hold more liquid. I rotate the bottle so the valve is between 10 and 11 O’clock. Fill the tank as far as it will go, then start “bumping” the valve to release air. Stop when you see frost starting or heavy white fog which indicates liquid being released.
You can also put the bottle in the freezer overnight to reduce volume of the gas inside before filling.
I keep a pitcher of water handy in case something freezes. Never happened yet.Last edited by jkwilson; 05-16-2019 at 08:37 AM.

That ^^^^^ is what I was going to say also....put the empty cans in the freezer for an hour or so right before trying to fill them.
