I have thought about doing for others myself. I can imagine the liability would be the down fall though.
Keep up the good work and I agree the self satisfaction is gratifying.

Thanks Dan. Looking back, I honestly don't remember how/where I got the idea of using diamond plate.

Oh.....and for anyone that is thinking about doing something like this or other mods in the basement, I would highly recommend you go to some Yoga classes or summat. 'Cause you're gonna have to crawl inside there and contort your body something fierce! Fortunately, my tennis playing has kept me some what limber. And another thing - plan on bumping your head on the floor stringers (joists??) probably......oh......maybe......1000 times. I bumped my head so many times I started to like it. ROTFLMA......

Boy, you got that right. I'm 6' 4" and after installing my EMS in the basement back by the water heater, I was crippled the next day. Brutal!

Tom, what was your source for the diamond plate? Did you cut it to size yourself, or did you have the supplier cut it to your dimensions? Was it pricey?

    Tom,
    Nice work as usual!
The downside is my OCD kicks in every time I see a figure print. LMAO....
What the heck is a figure print? You are starting to scare me what you might have planned for you metal enclosure. Hopefully we aren't going to see some massive locks for the doors

    Great mod,

    Wow! Really nice job Tom!!

I just happened to pick up the thread you started as on my 310GK the "Wall of Shame" has been removed. Two weeks ago we were in DC and a next door neighbor had a new 376 and we started comparing notes. I told him about my frustrations with the pump not sucking in anti-freeze last winter, getting it fixed at a local GD dealer, and then in DC we found the "fixed" water pump was no longer pumping from the fresh water tank. (Oh yes, it did suck great when we checked!)

So my new friend got his tools and showed how easy it was to get the Wall off and get to the guts of the water system. I've gambled a bit and bought a new pump I will put in shortly. But then did some research and decided to also put in an accumulator. And then decided to at least put the door of the Wall on hinges, which should be pretty easy to do. And I don't yet mind the "Velcro" fabric on the walls. ;-)

But now..... after seeing your work.... I think I may go your way a bit! I'm impressed!

I do have a couple pretty easy questions though:

    1. The stationary wall on the left side is fixed at the bottom but flaps in the breeze at the top. Would it be OK to get this anchored with a small metal screw to the AL cross-member?

    2. Since I will be adding the accumulator what type of clamps do I need to use? Are some good, stainless automotive screw clamps OK or should they be the use-once pinch clamps that GD uses?

    Awesome job Tom!

    Regards,

    Dave
