Fact remains until apparently very recently they were not on the same page.

What I read when I read Fauci’s “explanation” is. Well we didn’t have enough for the health care workers so we lied to the public so they would Hopefully stop looking for masks. They didn’t just “not recommend“ they left no doubt “stop buying masks they don’t help” that’s not “not recommending”. For a good reason?? Probably. My wife is a nurse though not the front lines anymore I’m fully on board with the need for them to come first. But you can’t lie and then backtrack and not expect some blow back and lack of trust from the at least some of the public.

I am fully cognizant of who the WHO is, not sure what that has to do with anything? They weren’t exactly right on the ball and transparent with this whole thing either. The AP ok?

Yes the rest of the world is a model of unity. Other countries don’t seem to have any issues with their government response

Maybe we should all move to China they seem to have everything completely under control and no one seems to have any issues with the way their government handles things.

I think I’ll stick with my fractured fat and spoiled country. For all its issues still the best place in the world to live at least IMHO.

This conversation has turned political, as stated in the past as hard as you try to hide the politics it still shows through the cracks in the conversation.
Change focus away from political innuendo or the thread will be locked.

Let me bring that to the point. Our daughter came back from the beach with covid-19. I had to get tested too, I am waiting for the results. My spouse belongs to the high risk category. If either one of us dies, we blame it on all of you who think they are smarter than all the scientists. If we take the disease in a breeze, we will say, "piece of cake", why worry. As you can see, there's definitely a bias stemming from your own experience.

More testing may make the US look bad, but why should we be concerned what other countries think of us? More testing gives you peace of mind and it may help you understand where we are. It may help you avoid clusters. It's not a safety net for sure.

But more than testing I would encourage everyone to wear a mask, and watch for symptoms, even if they are just a sore throat. It's not a shame to wear one, you're not a lesser of a man if you do.

I hope neither you nor your spouse gets the virus. But if you do, you may want to reconsider the steps you're currently taking to protect yourself.

We are not going out, we wear masks, we wash hands etc. but we did not wear a mask when our daughter came home to pick up the dogs. She didn't have symptoms then.

And this is really the problem with "I'm young, I'll be fine". Yes, you most likely will be, but, unless you're willing (and able) to totally isolate yourself from the more venurable populations (your parents/grandparents/etc) you stand a decent good chance of your "I'll be fine, let's go to a bar" turning into a funeral for someone you love.

Sadly, I think that's exactly why we're having so much trouble with masks in this country, people can't consider others in their decisions. I'm in the low risk group, I have a very low chance of serious complications from COVID. But I wear a mask to protect others from me, and, also, so that I can see my loved ones who aren't "lucky" enough to be young and healthy. But that leap, it's just too much for a lot of people; "what's my risk? Low, OK, carry on, off to the party we go" seems to be about as far as most people get in their decision making process.

I empathize with you, it must be a worrisome and frighting thing waiting to find out.

Here’s hoping your results come back quickly and negative.

We only go out for Dr visits, and curbside food pickup until recently. I had an unavoidable hospital ER visit last week, needed to get my heart shocked back into normal rhythm. Next week I undergo a 2 day cardiac stress test. These visits make me nervous.

After these events I redid my will and trust documents. The signing was done in my attorney’s parking lot with the attorney and 2 witnesses outside the car while they witnessed us signing inside the car. That was in 93 degree heat.

Wife and I went through a drive in Covid test last week and 3 days later reports came back negative.

About a week after the stress test I plan on being retested.

It really pisses me off seeing people not wearing masks here in Florida where cases are skyrocketing. So far I personally know only 4 friends who tested positive and one of those died. It’s outrageous that not wearing a mask has become a political statement for some.

I hear you man. I was reading on another board and someone said "It's like the government telling me I have to wear a helmet or seatbelts; it's my choice!!". No moron. It's like the government telling you that you can't drive drunk, not because they are worried about you, they are worried about the damage you might do to others. Wearing a mask is really the same to me as "not driving drunk" or "driving 100MPH with with 26K lbs of truck and RV". Yes, I might hurt myself doing either of those things, but the reason we get so offended is because you stand a very good chance of hurting someone else. And with COVID, it's likely the person you hurt/kill will be someone you love/in your family, your father, grandfather, mother, etc. The younger generation out partying it up, by all means, carry on, just STAY AWAY from those most likely to be impacted. Which, of course, they won't/can't do so...

IDK, it's a mess; I cannot believe how differently people are dealing with this. Honestly, for me, it's a bit of an annoyance, my life hasn't changed much except I don't have to fly all the time. And for those who need to be in person to work, I feel for you and am doing everything I can to keep you safe by not putting you in a situation where you have to deal with me and be exposed to someone else. But my god, the people acting like the world will end if they don't go out for a sit down meal? WTF people, it's only been a few months, and I seriously doubt that you'll starve to death on take out!
