    Possible crack in frame

Found this today on the driver's side behind the second axle.
Any thoughts on how bad it might be, or next steps I should take?

    Thanks,

    John

Certainly looks suspicious, doesn't it? I'd have a good welder/frame person look at it.

John612, I had a similar problem on another 5th wheel. Get to a competent frame shop ASAP, preferably big rig. Your only seeing one side of that crack. They can further evaluate how far that crack really extends and provide remedy. Mine involved adding "fish plates" and replacing spring hangers. I would certainly have them inspect the rest of the frame as well. Good luck.

My guess is you will find a support welded in place on the other side. Probably a tank support. Definitely take it to a welder. Should be an easy fix if they know what they are doing.

John @John612 - first time ever seen any possible frame crack post on a 303. Quite interesting in this location as well. It will be interesting to find out what you learn from a qualified welding or frame shop.

Agree, I've not come across any other cracks like that either. Out of curiosity I would drop the coroplast enought that you could get your hands up there and take some pictures of the other side. Please follow up and let us know how all this unfolds.

I think an informational call or emial to GD should be done too. Be sure to include your VIN number. Even out of warranty they may be interested seeing as this is not a common occurance.

Also contact Lippert as they made the frame and possibly will help. When this gets welded the welder should drill holes at the end of the cracks, and grind a V notch along the crack on both sides of the frame before welding. Also ask Lippert what welding rod your welder should use. That crack has been there a while. Get it repaired before any more trips.
