    Tow vehicle front wheel weight

How much weight, if any should the 5er add to the front wheels of the tow veichle?

I guess it depends on the truck / trailer combo among other things. My front axle weights goes from 5100 even to 5300 even per Cat scales when I hook up, that's with 3800 lbs total pin weight. I would guess that lower pin weights would add less to the front axle.

I checked the 2 weight tickets I had on the 350 dually and one went up 40 lbs and the other went up 80 lbs, weird. I guess the 450 somehow loads the front axle more, I know it squats less.

I’d be interested to see a diagram of how that is possible. Adding weight in front of the rear axle has to add weight to the front axle.

It all depends on where the center (pin hole/lock) of the fifth wheel hitch is located. The farther forward of the rear axle, the more weight, proportional to the pin weight, on the front axle when hitched up. On both of our trucks (a 2013 Sierra SRW prior to our current F350 DRW), putting 3,000 - 3,300 lbs. on the pin/hitch put 100 - 140 lbs. on the front axle.

Thanks for the input. From what I'm seeing here, a little front weight is okay. How much is too much? I'm guessing being light on the front would not be a good thing.
