Do I take the WDH that the dealer is fitting for me? Or find a different one?
Hi,
I've ordered an Imagine 2400BH from Camping World. The dealer will charge me about $500 to fit an Eaz-Lift ReCurve R3 weight distributing hitch.
I thought I might first do some research on WDH and buy something that I wanted, rather than having to take the dealer hitch. For example I was considering ProPride. However the dealer said their tech won't fit anything else and they will set up the Eaz-Lift as part of my collection. Is this typical? If I buy a new hitch do I then have to try and sell the Eaz-Lift?
I am new to trailering and I don't feel competent enough to fit my own hitch when I pickup the trailer. There will be too much I need to check and worry about without that. So this is an easy option to have the dealer fit the hitch and check it's all working ok with my towing vehicle.
What do you do when you buy a new trailer from a dealer?
Thanks

That stance is typical for Camping World which does not have the best reputation for customer service or flexibility in the RV industry. The ProPride is an excellent hitch with a good reputation. You could tell the dealer that they can meet your desires with the hitch or you will take your business else where (NOT to another Camping World). Many have done so. Perhaps others here with experience with the R3 can give you some advice on that particular hitch.

We purchased our 1st trailer from the same dealer as you. They installed the ReCurve system
and we found it very unsatisfactory when we moved from the single axle trailer to the Grand Design 2450.
We purchased the Propride and hardly know the trailer is behind us. There are other hitches
people like. You can see other opinions using the search function on this forum.
Hope this helps:

Sounds typical for CW from what I have heard. That is also assuming they set the hitch up properly.
If you are locked in or stuck with this dealer then I would proceed and get your trailer home and then get the hitch you want and sell the Recurve.
I doubt CW will budge on this one.Mike & Lisa

Would absolutely not recommend the Eaz-Lift. CW put one on for our first trailer and it failed three years later. The star wheel rusted out and so the head tilt needed to maintain the spring bars force disappeared! Miserable situation when 400 miles from home. Put on a BlueOX SwayPro. Do some homework and shop around.

There's a reason why GD will not allow cw be a GD dealer. GD will not even pay them for any warranty work on their trailers.

As others have mentioned, don't settle for a piece of equipment you don't want. Your paying for it after all. That is not a good wdh that they are offering you. Do your research and get the one you want. Even if that means towing it home without one or somewhere else. I fell for that as I didn't know any better back then, hadn't found this forum yet. [emoji6]. We end up still getting a good wdh, Husky Centerline but very noisy which drives me nuts. Now I'll be changing it for either an Anderson or Weight Safe. Still undecided between the 2. But this means that I will be out almost $1k, the propride is another really good one but really expensive. Not everyone is willing to install it but that's OK. In the end, it's probably best that you install it yourself, believe me. I had to ready my install that the dealer made. Like most of us.

First, I did not know CW was a Grand Design dealer.
While we went with a 5th wheel, I can tell you our GD dealer was good with any brand hitch we wanted.Geoff and Cheri

These trailers being bought at camping world must be used trailers ? Grand Design has never allowed camping world be a Grand design dealer in the past.

CW lists that hitch as being $600, so $500 installed is not bad. But, from experience, the after market for selling used hitches is terrible. Most people have one, and those looking want an upgrade. So your resale price will end up being very, very low. It may sit in your garage getting dusty for a pretty long time.
I love my ProPride, but many dealers will not install it. Either due to unfamiliarity or just due to the extra time it takes. Call ProPride and see if they have suggestions as to how you can get it installed - perhaps a mobile tech meeting you and the hitch at CW (if they allow it to happen in their lot), or a short distance away. Their instructions and phone support are second to none, but if doing it on your own it is a better at home driveway project than at the dealers lot. There may be tools (sockets, torque wrench) you need to make sure you have. And perhaps other bits and pieces - chain extensions, etc. you may find you need. Plus perhaps (or not) a bit of moving of propane tank tray, emergency brake control, etc. depending on the specifics of your trailer. All easy, but they take time if you are under pressure to get it done in the lot.
All-in-all just one of the many reasons I try to avoid CW. Hope you are getting a great deal on the trailer to justify the additional hassle!2017 Imagine 2670MK
