Which hitch for our combination?
Hello everyone!
First please forgive me if I did not include all information needed. I will try my best. Secondly, we are first time towers. We have always paid someone to move our rv for the last two years and are ready to do it ourselves.
Our question is with the rig we have and the truck we have which hitch will work for the combination.
So a couple things I realize we need to account for is clearance from the rig to the truck and possibly the rig to the back of our truck.
We do not have a sidewinder also. Something else new I learned about.
So our rv...

Other then those dimensions for the rig and the truck; I measured from the bottom of the rig to the pin on the hitch, it’s 14”
Then from the ground to the pin is 53.5”
On our truck from the ground to the top of the bed is 59”
From the ground to the bottom of the bed is 39”
Hopefully that’s all the information needed to assist us.
So sorry for sounding like an amateur and not knowing all information needed. I look forward and thank anyone for any and all help!

I would say you're over thinking it, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. One thing your didn't mention that could come into your decision making would be whether you have a long bed or short bed truck (to decide whether or not you feel you want/need a sliding hitch).
All the common 5th wheel hitches will be height adjustable so you'll want to set height for your specific RV. A 24k or 25k lbs rated hitch will cover you plenty.

Just saw your post about a short bed. That's personal preference and your RV font cap design may help or hurt you in tight turns. Plenty tow with a short bed without one, others have one and don't use it, and others swear by it and wouldn't tow without one. I personally recommend them with a short bed

I have a 25k rated B&W Companion hitch. Ford OEM puck system. No slider since I have a long bed.

Thanks for your advice!
I think after writing this and researching for a couple days and calling all kinds of places we may have landed on this hitch.

Our last issue was the height issue from rig to truck. It’s hard to know really unless you have the hitch in your truck. I feel at least.
Wish there was a site that you could enter your rig info in and truck info info then see all the options for hitches.

It's a good hitch. Check eTrailer out, might have better pricing.
You'll be able to adjust the height of the hitch which will adjust the height of the trailer vs the truck rails. Unfortunately, Ford has tall trucks and rails.

I would also recommend air bags to help with that pin weight. I added bags to my F250 and it really helped with stability. That is a pretty healthy camper for a single tire truck. Compare the pin weight to the yellow sticker payload number on the driver door B pillar.

I apologize in advance if I missed something, but are you sure your truck can handle the weight of your rig? On the surface it seems to me it could be too heavy. Check the red & white placard on the driver door frame. Compare that to the sum of the following:
- 23% of the GVWR of your rig
- weight of hitch
- Weight of occupants
- Weight of any other gear you will be carrying in your truck
My gut says you might have an issue. But I could be wrong.
With regard to your original question, I use a 20k Curt Slider for mine. Love it. You will probably need their 24k version.John & Mary
