PA - Ricketts Glen State Park

This question is mostly for those that live in PA but maybe somebody out of state has been here as well.

Has anybody camped at Ricketts Glen State Park?
If so how did you travel to get there?

When I put directions in the trip planner it wants to bring us up from the south side which has a steep grade.
I was wondering how the road was coming from the north side.

    Thanks.

We are located in the Lehigh Valley.
Coming in from Red Rock is a bit tough. It is steep (wouldn't recommend) but can be done pending on your TV.
You can take PA-487 from Dushore, its a bit out of the way. We take RT 309 North and then cross over.
Another option andmaybe best coming fron Lancaster is to take 222 then NE Extension Turnpike on up.
Some ofthese old PA roads you needs to be concerned with bridge height restrictions.
    I hope this helps.

@RoJoSo summed it up well. Beyond the climb, coming in from the south is slower in reality than any planning software will tell you. Yes, more miles to swing around, but you will be traveling at higher speed and less delay. Ricketts is one we've camped a lot in the past.

According to the Rickett's Glen State Park directions:

"The section of PA 487 from the town of Red Rock to the Lake Jean area of the park is a very steep road. Heavy trailer units should avoid this hill and enter the park by taking PA 487 south from Dushore."

I haven't been to the campground - just hiking off of Rt 118, but drove 118 often between Dallas and Hughesville. Rt 118 isn't the problem - it's 487.

    Take the northern route.

Just wanted to say we didn't camp there but spent a day and hiked the Falls Trail. Spectacular but believe it when it says it's steep, rocky, slippery and you need to be in good condition. All true and we saw people in trouble the day we were there. That road is crazy steep. Great park.

    Thanks everybody.

It looks like we will be coming down from the the north side to avoid the steep road as all suggested.
