Hello,
There are a half dozen models or so of the Ram 2500 series with payloads of 3990 and 3880. They can be found by searching Ram towing charts which are PDF files listing all the configurations and their respective payloads.

That is impressive and unusual for even the bare bones 2 door 2 wheel drive quipped 2500 series gasser. Maybe this is close to your truck's configuration.
To learn more and help understand, please post a picture of the yellow payload sticker from the drivers door frame for your truck and share the configuration, pkgs. options, etc. if you would be so kind.
I would suspect the numbers which Kevin shared in his post #22 are for bare bones 2 door gassers "keys and heat" as we used to refer to them.

Not to be argumentative, but are you sure you have a 3.73 rear end? I have the 2017 version of your truck and the rear end is a 4.12. And IIRC from the published RAM info, the max tow for our truck can only be achieved with 4.12 gears. And you can tell this by the rear differential cover - if it's finned aluminum you got a 4.12, if not you have the 3.73.

@Misfit, looks good.
Thanks for all the replies everyone, been off the grid for a little while. We are looking at the 29RS so, with some airbags we will be fine. I will be over the max payload but, not by much, couple hundred pounds at most. Stay safe....

You would be pretty much correct if looking for one on a dealers lot. The Tradesman single cab log bed with just a few options is all I could find in stock. Ram makes it almost impossible to search by payload (spent 2 hours) but easy to search by towing capacity Go figure.

Ram 2500
I attached the original sticker. You can lookup the capacity off the RAM towing website with my VIN... 3c6ur5hj3hg537056
So I did lie (sorry, was going by memory) it's only 3134#. Still plenty for our Solitude though.
Plenty of 2500 configurations hit that 3800# though.

I think folks are looking for the sticker on the driver's door. That's where each truck has it's own unique payload rating.
Here is the payload sticker from my 2016 GMC 3500 SRW:
Most 3/4 ton trucks used for towing (e.g. diesel, crew cab, 4x4, etc) have payloads well under 3,000lbs. I suspect that's why folks were surprised when you mentioned a 3,800lb payload rating.Brian & Kellie

I have seen several gasers around 3,000 but I also have seen Ram 2500 Diesel with high options under 2,000 pounds of payload. I would still check the weights since my Solitude 310GK and 2350 dry pin but loaded for just a weekend trip in jumped to 3100 pounds and 30-day it was within 200 pounds of my 7050 rear axle rating. Seems that the GD dry pin weights are little low.
