I prefer the hardwired because when your rig is in the shop you're still protected. And it won't supply bad power unless you override it. You also don't need to worry about theft. With the remote read out inside the rig you can always tell how many amps you're drawing.

I like portable for the reason if a surge event happens, it happens outside of the trailer. Surge Guard now has a 50 amp model that will see an open neutral at the pedestal or inside the trailer.

I just bought a 50 amp Progressive EMS from Camping World. It’s on sale right now.

I have always used Progressive Industries products. I bought a 30 amp six years ago for our first big camper and used it the whole time with no issues with the unit other than it saving us a few times due to brownouts or bad pole wiring. I let the unit go when I sold that camper so it will hopefully help them as much as it did us. When we just bought our new 2021 Imagine 3250BH I went back to progressive and bought the 50 amp version of the EMS product they have. In my opinion the EMS is the best product to get. I like the portable one as I like to check the power before we even pull the camper off the truck. If the pole is bad you still have the possibility of moving. If its not line interactive like the EMS product is its really just a glorified power strip that may not really protect you. Other brands do sell EMS comparative products but not everyone likes to spend $400 bucks on power protection. But in my humble opinion its money well spent that could save you a camping trip and thousands of dollars in repairs.

Ditto on the Portable Progressive EMS. You'll want to secure it. A fellow Grand Design Imagine buddy recommended the "Cable Lock, Python Adjustable Keyed Cable Lock, 6 ft. Long, 8413DPF." It works great. Goes through the loop on the EMS and then you wrap it around the power post. It cinches up, and then lock. Nothing is foolproof, but it would definitely slow them down.
