Thanks for posting, I hope things work out for your friends.

With regard to crime prevention considerations for the rest of us, do you know what kind of lock was defeated on the hitch? Any lock can be defeated of course, but was it as simple as the bad guy taking a bolt cutter to a padlock on the release mechanism, or was it a more elaborate hitch lock/cover device?

I believe it was simply a padlock on the hitch. Certainly makes you think about the best way to try to protect your belongings.

Wow, I just stumbled onto this post. A little late but I'm in the Ottawa, Ontario region and will also keep an eye out.
What a shame. It's really hard to replace a good used trailer.
I started thinking about all of the stuff that we keep in ours and mind mind started going out of control.
